Where do you find the Vin Number of the Airstreams?
I have the first part that is on the tongue of the traler but I understand that this is only part of the number.

There is a plate on the side of the trailer near the entrance door that displays the serial number.
Over at Airstream FAQs is the best explanation of VINs, but it gives details only as far back as 1966. I do know that late 50s models can have only 4 numbers. I do not know how consistent Airstream was back then, but the complete VIN is on the channel steel of the A frame -- when it is there. It can be obstructed by WD U-bolts. Otherwise there usually is a small metal ID plate riveted to the body skin -- it usually has an Airstream logo, maybe the model name, and the embossed VIN letters/numbers. This is frequently just forward of the door, but I've seen it on trailer front under the window (my Argosy) and roadside front (my Safari).
Maybe owners of similar models could speak up if you tell us what year range you're looking at. I know you are looking -- good luck!
Chapparel, check out this Photo Archive/Model Index, which will give you the information on the VIN formats for your year. There are also tons of pictures, which are a lot of fun to look through.

Thanks for the link. Searching for "serial number" brought up the thread and answered nicely. Now I know I have a California Caravel.
Thanks all for the information. It has helped a lot. I hope I get the knack of mastering posting new threads and how to find them if you go to another site. It just took me 15 minutes to find this list of Threads that I started.
