VIN doesn't match Airstream guidelines

We recently purchased a 1984 Sovereign, 27 ft, Rear Bath. As I continue to read and learn on the Airstream Forum pages I started looking at my VIN and comparing to the published guidelines found on these pages. (I downloaded the 1980 and higher guidelines) Here is my VIN

1STTBAL2XEJ501846

There seem to be two discrepancies:
1) 4th character in my VIN is a T, guidelines say T thru Z were not used.
2) 5th character in my VIN is a B. Which indicates I own a "Classic *4/4/01".

Also am I reading it right when I assume it was production sequence number 501 that year?

Any help deciphering sure would be appreciated and I continue to be amazed at how much info the Airstream Family shares with each other. What a wonderful resource for us beginners...

Well, I know this may sound weird to some but I have decided that the erroneous VIN really does not matter too much. The VIN on the title matches the VIN on the Airstream (Bud is its name by the way) so it is all good.

I know I have a Sovereign, not a classic as my VIN indicates, because it says "Sovereign" all over Bud and the design matches the 27ft Sovereign for 1984.

And I know I have a rear bath (because I have to walk to the back of the trailer to use it). So Skye and I have decided the fact that it is all just a little off...is perfect.

Cleaning and loading Bud up as we speak and getting ready for a 6 night romp to 3 different State Parks here in Texas.

We love our weird ol boy! '
