VIN and serial do not (quite) match

I have started my search for a trailer and looked at an Argosy yesterday. Apart from being quite saddened by the poor condition for the asking price I noticed that the Title doc does not fully match the trailer plate. In particular its the first set of number/letters
Doc = 2674V
Plate = 26T4V
From looking elsewhere I notice that the 4 on the plate is 1974 and coincidentally the Doc is 74
Is this a usual thing or was there a mistake in the title doc? Should they match exactly?

Thanks for input

Bex

I bet it's a typing error, as the 7 is not too far from a T on the keyboard. And if the print is light or smudged a 7 may look like a T or visa versa.

Stuff happens at the DMV, though. I once owned a 1957 Ford Farlane 500 that the VIN matched perfectly. The title said Chevy, though.

Never had a problem other than the laughs it prompted.

just take a rubbing and a digital photo and you can have the title corrected with that. it really is just a typo.

In a situation where title and actual VIN do not match I would go to MVD and play dumb. Not hard for me. In my experience trying to get MVD to correct a mistake is like trying to get milk from a boar hog. MVD often confuses I and 1 an O and 0.
