title in South Dakota with a pending long trip?

Dear All;

I am about to purchase a 2013 airstream flying cloud in Gulfport MS. My current home state is Texas but I am going to be full timer seeing all 49 states.

I did some research, it seems SD is a better choice with no state income tax (like Texas) and 3% exercise tax on purchase and no annual inspection requirement .

So the questions:
1. Is it a good choice for title and register in SD?
2. in the next three months, my trip will NOT take me to SD, Do I have problem registering it without going there?
3. Do I need to register it within how many days in order to be on the road without problem?
4. Is it OK to have Texas driver's license and trailer registration from SD? It will take me 1.5 months to get to SD if I have to go there this year.

Thank you

Joy

Tax is now 4%. You can do the entire registration through a mailing service like Americas-Mailbox. www.americas-mailbox.com. You need to register before any temporary tags expire. As to having split drivers license/registration if you are stopped for a traffic infraction might take some explaining. If you are stopped in Texas or SD you might have a lot of explaining to do any may get a ticket for not following their individual residency requirements.

Last question is where do really want to have your domicile? Voting, health care, taxes if any, etc. Not a decision to take lightly. Especially the insurance if you don't have healthcare through an employer or are of age for Medicare.
