"..you won't find it so hot, if you ain't got the do re me."
or was that about something else

Six months later finally got new shiny CA plates. No registration. 3 weeks later got notice they wanted their plates back and more $$.

Moved to Alaska. Drug the Airstream. Walked into Alaska DMV, 3 people in line, told very friendly clerk I wanted to title and register trailer from Illinois. "That will be $13 for 2 years, please, here's your new plates."

In and out with a smile in 15 minutes.

California is not really that bad.

After all, the DMV people are taught very well, how to look you in the face, smile at you, at the same time that they raid your finances.

They even sometimes say "thank you," and whisper "another sucker."

Hey, it could get worse.

They are talking about an additional tax for each toilet you have in your home or business.

Andy

Great info, very interesting. So other trailers may have my same Vin, but the license plate is different and that's what is traced? Thank goodness I have found all my documents to prove the trailer is mine! Hopefully this will get sorted out soon. The vehicle verifyer hasn't come over yet, but I will let you know what happens next at the DMV, where "they're not happy until you're not happy". I just love that! So funny!

We'll probably get that one too, but here we'll call it a user fee.

NO NEW TAXES!
(But we will fee you to the poorhouse)

Back in the "good old days" there was a user fee in many places.

The cost if I remember was a quarter.

I guess I go back further. Our cost was a nickel, payable to the attendant...

Hi, what's all this talk about Nickles and Quarters? I dropped a one Dollar bill and was cited for littering.

I was wondering if you have any answers yet on the title for your trailer? Keep us informed, we're interested!

Hi Dave, nothing yet on my trailer. The guy hasn't come to do the verification yet, hopefully soon. Did you guys have a nice time at Refugio? Looks like beautiful weather!

Thanks,
Jenny

SUPER time. Weather was great, there was a nice little break off the point for kayak/board surfing, family and friends were there from So Cal and central coast area - about 40 all together. Thanks for asking.
Hopefully this fiasco with your title is resolved soon, it must be sooo frustrating. Keep us posted.
Dave

Finally!

IT'S MINE AGAIN! YIPPPEEEEE!

What a nightmare! After almost 2 weeks of pleading, the county sheriff or CHP to come do a vehicle verification, they obliged. Then, DMV needed to contact Sacramento and order micro-film (another week) and today it's all sorted out. New plate, new title.

They did not charge me any late fees on registration and agreed that none of this was my fault. Crazy huh? Still, I the amount of time this has taken has been increadible. Oh well, the trailer is now up for sale and I really hope it finds a good home. I don't have a truck anymore and don't have time that it needs, so it's time to pass it along.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Jenny
