Sales tax paid

This might've been discussed before. I'll share what we had to do today to get our new AS sales tax paid.

We bought the coach in TN, and received the cert of origin and bill of sale from the dealer yesterday. We were not sure if the county tag office would process the transaction...and they could not. Since it's not a motor vehicle, we had to go to the Revenue office in Buckhead. Not a big deal (other than a $4600 check), but with that done, we're now ready to go the county tag office for registration.

FYI to those GA folks that buy new out of state and return here for taxes and licensing.

Oh, and they take checks, but no credit/debit cards. Not sure about cash, but with security these days, I'm not sure I want to tote that much dough around.

That truly sucks. I bought my trailer from an individual in Wisconsin. Towed it back to Mississippi. Drove over to the county tax collectors office. Walked out 15 minutes later with title and tag in hand for a grand total of $38. No extra taxes and no inspections required.

You know it, brother. When we started saving for the trailer thankfully we factored-in taxes (didn't want to finance that). Death and, well, you know😃

VA was the worst, CA a very close second. GA has been a haven so far (compared to CA), but registering vehicles and getting our state driver licenses were all-day, open-your-wallet journeys.

Here is how it works in Washington State. You buy a trailer, you pay sales tax when you register it in Washington. It doesn't matter if it was new, old, purchased here or somewhere else. You have to register it in the state and when you do, it is sales tax time.

Those who are critical and say that this state or that state is "tax hungry" really don't know what they are saying. Every state will get their pound of flesh and if they don't charge a sales tax, they will tax something else. Of course you can choose to live in a state that collects little in the way of taxes but then you will probably be driving on poor roads and sending your kids to substandard schools, have fewer places to camp and so on and so on.

Ok, let's pump the brakes shipmate.

Just like you, same game here. It was a 90k coach so, yeah, taxes were due and paid. Coulda been much worse (like I could've not survived a terrorist attack, or, more recently, an attack of the piles after eating at the BK Lounge).

Just an FYI on the state-specific steps to buying, taxing, and registering a non-motorized movable in GA.
