I bought in Oregon dealerships both times and they don't really do much for you. I still had to handle registration on my own. Which was a blast. On the second trailer I spent at least an hour arguing with the registration lady who tried to charge me tax on the full amount of the new trailer rather than on the difference after trade in. Fun times. And you're right, yearly registration is just under 200.

Uh, really? I just checked mine and it is $62. In Washington yearly license and registration is not a function of value like it used to be years ago. One of our anti tax crusaders managed to pass an initiative that charges all vehicles a flat rate of $35. Of course over the years local governments have tacked on local "fees" to cover a lot of what was lost when they drastically reduced license tabs. If you are paying $200, that is something.

My tabs were $62 dollars. Of course I paid $6000 in sales tax.

Washington likes to add on some stiff weight fees. Look at the scale weight on your registration and you will find the difference.

My title does not list weight. If you are paying close to $190 then I think it has to do with your local excise taxes being added to the basic fee. Ask around and see if anyone in a different county with the same trailer is paying as much as you.

No sales tax.

Hi, I was very fortunate when I bought my trailer in Oregon because, at that time, California had a 91 day rule. If the trailer stayed out of California for more than 91 days, California didn't charge sales tax. [even though they still tried to] My selling dealer stored my new trailer for free until we could come and pick it up. We didn't pay any sales tax in Oregon or California.

Robert,
In a previous post it was explained that it is your civic duty to pay those taxes. If you do, the State of California will add another lane to 880. Uh huh.

You should also claim all of your internet purchases made out of state and tax exempt on your State income tax return since you used those items upon California soil. For this good deed, the toll on the Golden Gate will be adjusted down from $10 to $3 ( which is what it was in the 90's) or, Caltrans will resurface and convert either the NB or the SB #2 lane of the 5 from a mogul field to a slightly bumpy ride.

Hi, I guess that I'm either a bad person or figuered that since I was born here that I have already paid my fair share to the state of California.

Hey Bob if you move to Oregon and then visit Washington all you have to do is show your Oregon Drivers License and they won't charge sales tax. But no worry, they just add it to our tax bill.
