Re: Permanent trailer license?

In Minnesota we do not have a permanent trailer license, however I just paid my annual fee which came to a whopping $8!

I have heard through the grapevine that the state of Michigan now offers a permanent trailer license for around $200 as opposed to the annual license fee. Does anyone have info on this? Are any other states following suit?

Angry Trailer license

Yes, michigan is going to a permanent license to raise immediate cash for balancing the state budget. $75 for small <2000# trailers and $200 for anything bigger. You will get a new tag with a "permanent" description. Anyone who thinks it would be transferable knows nothing about state government and your wallet.

Tax-a-chusetts

In good ole Tax-a-chusetts, we are charged an annual fee based on trailer length. My trailer is 19' which translates into an annual fee of $65. Yet another reason to move out of state!

In response to Creampuff, Calif has permanent plates for open utility trailers, but definitely NOT for Airstreams... Bake a plate of cookies for your DMV Clerk, 'cause her confusion saved you several hundred $$. We registered an '89 Excella 25 in August purchased from out of state, and paid over $1,000 in use taxes and fees to license... It will be several hundred $$ per year unless a new governor and legislature make some changes...

Maybe you will elect a "terminator" today who will take care of this for you!

Ohio has raised their plate fees by $11.45. I got new plates for the new truck last week, and they don't use raised letters on the plates anymore. The license plate looks "fake", like it is made out of plastic. Pay more, get less!

Thumbs up Creampuff 1 / CA state 0 !

Thanks JB for that clarification.
I guess that makes up for the whopping increase I'm paying on the tow vehicle!
I like the idea of the Historic Vehicle plate, being Creampuff is 36 an all, but after my good fortune getting that permanent plate - I'm keepin' it!!
