Offical Weight Documents Needed to Register 63 Tradewind

Ok - have a deliema here. Went to register my Airstream and all of the documentation that I have does NOT have any reference to the GVR for my 1963 Tradewind.

They will NOT allow me to register (got to love the NYS DMV) until I get the trailer wieghed OR unless I have some official documents with the GVR on it.

Anyone kknow where I can get this information in a an official form? Can anyone copy / fax/ PDF it to me?

Thanks,

-Sig

Just go to a truck stop, with a CAT scale and weigh it. Or find a local sand and gravel pit, with a scale. Might be tough to find an exact document for a 1963 trailer.

This is the "official" weights chart for Airstreams, and they didn't begin publishing GVWR for their trailers until the 1989.

http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p.../weights-1.pdf

It seems a little odd that no one else has ever been able to register an older Airstream in the State of New York without having published GVWR? There is obviously some way of getting it done that your DMV clerk just didn't know about.

weigh it

You should know how much your trailer weighs.

I don't think you wil find GVR in any literature for 1963. What was shown in the brochures and sales literature was usually dry weight.

If you are taxed on weight, you would want to go with actual weight anyway, as it will be less than GVR.

My 1959 Tradewind has a dry weight of 3160 lbs; the state says the GVWR is 4500 lbs.

Hello sigv,

Yes ,go to a cat scale or a place that has a public scale and weigh it,dont have water in the tanks and if you have full lp bottles take them off to reduce weight .the paperwork youll get is legal and you can get a certified weighing at some scales which the dmv will desire. The reason for the weight is so they can charge you !! usually more ,the more it weighs the more the fees will be .Here in CA its was the same with my commercial 1 ton service truck at my dmv office.
