Obtaining a lost title

We bought a 1963 Safari without a title . We are currently trying to redo it and I find out that South Carolina requires the camper to be registered and tagged . I am not sure how to go about getting a title for this Safari. Can anyone help?

It differs from state to state. I'm sure there's some paperwork you can fill out to get the process going. A bill of sale is probably required. Did you buy it out of SC?

I had the same problem when I bought mine. It took me a year to track down the last registered owner and then he held me up for $100.00 before he would sign the papers. In oregon it is very hard if you do not have the last owner's signature.

Move to Georgia. All you need for a unit that old is a bill of sale.

Sorry you all have had such ordeals in dealing with registration of your campers. We bought ours in IN and towed it home with an eBay receipt (print out) and 6 weeks later we got a new title in our names. I was a little concerned not having a title to close the deal but it should not be an issue with a 40+ year old camper.

Good luck, get a lawyer.

According to the Georgia Dept of Revenue website, http://motor.etax.dor.ga.gov/motor/titles/required.asp
Georgia does not issue titles for 1962 and older vehicles, also does not issue titles for boats and boat trailers. Titles are optional for 1963-1985 vehicles, only required for 1986 and newer. That might be a problem is you moved from GA to TN with an older vehicle.
