IL if I recall raised their fees. I use to pay $15/yr. I think I'm up to $40 now. I thought that was bad....hopefully the folks in IL won't see what the folks in MI are doing.....but me thinks me has a bad feeling since our budget is way off too..........

Actually, I kind of like the permanent plate idea. I'm done paying for plates for the Safari, and though I don't get the vanity "AYRSTRM" that I wanted, I don't intend to get a new AS or any other RV soon. Really, cost of ownership is pretty low, and if any of that money goes to the upkeep of State Parks and Forests then I'm happy. A LOT of people in Michigan have boats, RVs, ATVs, snowmobiles and the lot and USE them. If you're buying two $8000 snowmobiles, what's another $150-$200 one time for your trailer?

Not to hijack this thread but has anybody had to deal with a lost title for their trailer in Michigan? I just bought an Argosy and I'm just trying to figure out what I'm up against and what I might need before I go to the Secretary of State. Thanks in advance!

I would be happy with a $200.00 one time payment for our Airstream. In Nevada we pay a sliding scale on the value of the trailer. I'm coming up in January for my 2011 tags for our 2005 and I think they will be about $600.00. I do get a Veterans exemption of $125.00 or $150.00 off of the price.

This is just for anybody else's future reference. So I just got back from Sect. o State in Kalamazoo, MI and I don't know if I did or didn't do the right thing but I was able to get my title this way. I guess if anything is older than 6yrs. old and under $2,500 in value (I paid less than that but from what I've seen in the forums value is subjective) than all they have to do is run your vin number through the NCIC and either you have to have the trailer weighed by the State Police Weighmaster or you can do what I did which was take the vin plate off the trailer (my Argosy had it screwed into the body) and since that has the number and weight on it you should be good to go. I was pretty surprised that it was $120 to register it and that it's going to be another $200 for the trailer plate, but I do plan on having this thing for awhile and since they were able to do instant title for me all I have to do is show back up at the Secretary of State with cash and I can go and enjoy Northern Michigan colors next weekend.
