Is it real?

We have located a 1963 19ft Safari airstream in need of restoration that we are considering purchasing but we do not seem to be able to locate much information about this particular model. We were told that there were only 240 of these made but are unable to verify that. Is this truly a rare find or is it just undesirable for some reason?

Any information or input you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated

I imagine an AS historian will see this thread and reply. In the mean time, I would think that 240 trailers coming out of a build by hand factory in 1963 is quite a few for one year.

I don't know how definitive it is, but in Airstream's 1963 literature it lists the Safaris at 22 ft, the 19' trailer is a Globetrotter.

It could be the usual problem of someone measuring the interior length of the trailer at 19' and calling it a 19, when Airstream measures bumper-to-hitch instead.

We can probably tell you much more if you give us the serial number.

"Very rare" followed by "very few made" is a constant selling ploy. However "22 foot very desirable" is a true statement.

The buying adventure continues. It's looking like our1963 safari 19 foot is actually a 1965 safari 22 ft. More to come as we continue to unveil it from the overgrown yard it has been in for years!
