Angry Help? CA DMV is ruining vacation

Ordering trailer in Oregon due to a good.. and large dealership. I live in CA and want to pick up my trailer in late August and travel around Oregon, but DMV will only issue a 10 day permit. So with high gas prices, I must pick up the trailer, drive to CA, hope a DMV close to the border is open and have someone check the VIN and of course collect taxes. This is quite annoying and inefficient.

Try another person at DMV.

At our local DMV if you ask three employees how to handle a situation you can just about put money on it that you'll get three different answers.

Be prepaired to spend the day there, though.

We bought ours in Colorado and the dealership there put a thirty day (may have been longer) temp tag on it. Maybe the Oregon dealership can do the same.

I have had similar problems with the DMV in CA. I was even escorted out by the guard when I requested to speak to a supervisor because they refused to follow the regulations published in the current CA Motor Vehicle Code.

I went to an Auto Club office facility. They laughed, explained the DMV didn't really know their job. Showed my again where it was explained in the DMV code, then registered my vehicle for me. This took maybe all of fifteen minutes. You might give the Auto Club an opportunity to help!

Ditto on the temp tag from the Oregon dealer. I would think that they could do that for you. I flew to Michigan a couple of years ago and purchased a used Suburban from a Chevy dealer. He put a paper temp Michigan tag on the Sub. I made two side trips before I drove it back to Florida. When I got home I paid the sales tax and registration fee, and got a permanent Florida tag.

I did not even talk to anyone at Florida DMV before I went and got the Suburban.

Same here. I bought mine in TX but live in CA, received a temp license from the dealer not TX DMV.
