It appears Ca. knows when the DWI was issued. While your birth date is not listed in your profile I suspect you you may not have had a drivers license then. Would Ca accept that as a fact?

I would write each governs office with registered mail, as a protection if you end up in court while driving without a license. In the letter mention the fact that the 2 agencies can't or won't directly talk to one another. Call your representative. One thing to check before calling a representative, be selective and try and find one that is known for action, because they have courtesy within the fraternity of not entering into a problem that any other member of the fraternity has dealt with. So you only get one shot.

Good luck. Added stress to an already stressfull life. There is a guy in my town that has the same name as me, I hope it never happens to either of us.

Doorgunner,
I feel your pain. I am a Carl, Jr. and it seems when my father, Carl, Sr., passed away, somebody somewhere goofed up and I was the one that got marked as deceased. It took a good long while and lots of red tape to get me counted among the living again.

I got a lot of OJT in 69 & 70 with a aircooled 50, fully automatic, belt fed.
True happiness.
This thing with Fla, is just a nagging pita.

Doorgunner... Indeed, you might need an attorney but before having to spring for one of 'em, try your local news station then call your local representatives and let them know you've talked with your local "KLUK TV"... incompetence hates publicity... and so do their bosses.

I'll bet you're not the only person this has happened to and perhaps the publicity will "encourage" the bureaucrats to clean the system up. Sorry you're having to go through this - karma to you.

I have NO use for attorney's or politicians. Or the biased media.
So I
got thru to the Fla. folks, spoke first with a nimrod who had to get me his supervisor, his haitian accent was gettin to me and he could not understand the whole thing.
A lady came on line and when I explained what was going on she said that somewhere along the line I was given bad information! I said -well your department started it so you should be able to fix it! She indicated that I would have to pay a fee of $175 to clear the record. NO WAY- The ticket was issued 02/07/1977 and complied with 03/01/1977!! AND you have NO mug shot,No fingerprints, and NO SSN. AIN"T HAPPENING!!
She says hold on a minute, I need to check with my supervisor.
A few minutes on hold.
She comes back and says she can waive the fees. and asks me to hold while she gets into the National Drivers Registry. She makes a few changes and waits to see if the data is modified. Yes, you're fine now but the DUI will still remain on your record. Thats another issue, like I give a rats a$$ about some fictious ticket 31 years ago. then she says it may take 72 hours for the modification to be available. So I asked her to send me a copy snail mail for my records, sure no problem.
So as soon as I get the paperwork I'll trudge to the DMV again and see what more California will ask of me.
What really amazes me is thru all this crud I've maintained my composure and have yet to drop the "F" bomb.
I'm thinking the level of incompetence thruout the world is linked to bad data, kinda like when you call Dell, if you aren't getting the answer you're looking for -hang up and call again.
Looks like I'm close to being legal again. not sure I wanna be lol

Semper Fi, 'gunner.

Can I ask a very basic question here? Why does anybody in any government office anywhere care about a misdemeanor crime committed 31 years ago? Solved, unsolved, fines paid or unpaid. Haven't these morons heard of something called a statute of limitations?

Also, just so everybody knows this part, many states have been sharing this type of information for years. I think the "Homeland Security" thing was simply used as an excuse to force the rest to play along.

Just my two cents.

I hope your health improves soon and isn't too much of a burden for you. Good luck.

Jim

On edit: I think I just figured it out. Somebody with a name similar to yours was actually CONVICTED but never paid the fine. Is that what happened? Unpaid traffic fines basically never go away (in the mind of the Gov'mnet). Hard to believe that somebody never paid DUI fine. A parking ticket, maybe, but a DUI? That wouldn't happen these days.

nyc has/had an 8 year limit on collecting parking fines. a friend got suspended after 7-1/2 years and tried to ride out the limits, unsuccessfully.

i just can't wait until i get to go to the dmv in florida!

@ doorgunner........i'm glad you're legal now.

Sure glad you're 'Legal' again...I'd hate to be 'stylin' down Kettleman in our giant 'X' to think there's a non-legal Burb pilot gunnin' for me...

We're headed up the hill again this 3-day'er to wade across the 'Raging River' and test the special holiday buffets...

Also, I've got to take my FORD stencils to mark off some 'FORD ONLY' spaces out there at the end of the RV park...away from the crescent moon facilities...

...Maybe the person died, and that's why they never paid the fine...
I still occasionally get phone calls and letters from bill collectors over my father. He died in 2001, and some of the bills go back to 1993.
