Gunner....Has the issue of SS numbers come up? I would think that the different SS numbers would be all you'd need to show that this low life in FL is a completely different person.

How about going to some high level 'official' up in Sacto at DMV...Of course it's probably to 'reasonable', but I would think this kind of thing could be resolved easily by someone that has the 'power' to make the correct decision...if that's no good, how about one of our elected officials...of course they're to busy trying to figure out next years budget....

This can't be the first time DMV has run into this problem, now that the State's systems are hooked together...there MUST be some cross check to prove there can be more than one person with the same name...Bob Smith will have a hell of a time to get his License renewed!!!!

That and Hillsborough County will have the deadbeat's fingerprints on file from his DWI arrest. Is the guy even still alive? Were you even born, or at least legal driving age, in 1977? Were you in the military at the time? If so, were you even in the country?
Different middle name, different D.O.B, different SSN... And you have to pay the guy's fine to have your license reinstated? Have you thought about how much that DWI will raise your car insurance rates?
I found a link to something that may help, maybe...:

Doorgunner,

I am one of the last to suggest getting a lawyer, but this seems like a good time to do so, particularly since the CA budget nonsense has led to many DMV people being let go. A lawyer may cost you something, but the lowered blood pressure is probably worth it.

You might try to call your elected representative.

A guy who I work with had the same type issue when renewing his drivers license in Georgia. Someone in New York with the same name had a record. He contacted his State representative. His State representative cleared up the issue in a few days.

You might try to call your elected representative.

Good luck. Added stress to an already stressfull life. There is a guy in my town that has the same name as me, I hope it never happens to either of us.

Doorgunner,
I feel your pain. I am a Carl, Jr. and it seems when my father, Carl, Sr., passed away, somebody somewhere goofed up and I was the one that got marked as deceased. It took a good long while and lots of red tape to get me counted among the living again.

County Clerk Call

Called the clerk in Tampa
He asked for the ticket #. I gave it to him, he said that's not correst.
I told him it was issued in 1977. he said their records did not go back that far!
So why does the DMV/DDL use this info??
I was only on the tele 3 minutes and was answered first time I tried!wow
So all I need to do is in writing request a D6 clearance letter, state the facts and include a self addressed envelope with $7.

I feel your pain Doorgunner! I had an "encounter" with Verizon on Monday. Guess What? !! Their customer service center is in India ! Have any of you tried to resolve a issue with one who DOES NOT or can not comprehend that there was never an account with Verizon and WHY are you (Verizon) charging me $168.32 ?!

And then to add "insult" to injury, their resolve is ....." I can give you credit for 1 month". !!!!!!
What part of "I never had an account with Verizon that you don't understand"!!

Anyway, ends up that I was redirected back to the USA and spoke to an "American" who hopefully resolved my problem.

Anyway, thought I'd share my frustrations with you and let you know that I feel your pain brother !

Latest grief

I got my letter from the Traffic Division, Tampa Fla. today. It indicates I've complied with the ticket. Yipee, so I hotfoot to the DMV.
Well the letter was not accepted by the California DMV as the Floridia Court, and Florida DMV, DLL whatever the hell they wanna be called indicated to me that this would be all I needed.
So after the top dog at the Lodi DMV was not giving me any good answers she provided me with a # to call to speak with a specialist in this area.
Here's what I found out- ALL 50 states are now hooked up on line together, thanks to the Homeland security joke thing. Yup I despise that line of crap thing.
So what the state of Ca. suggests I do is now provide the Fla, state driver license folks with this letter. huh- they started this - their court and dmv dll computors aren't hooked up?
Then he told me to expect to pay for reinstatement of my driving privileges in Fla. before I can be reissued my license here in Ca. Huh.
And he stated that I should be prepared to pay a fee for this, how much I asked? He said could be a lot seeing as it happened in 1977 what with late fees etc.
I'm not feeling to good about this,
BIG BROTHER--BITE ME

It appears Ca. knows when the DWI was issued. While your birth date is not listed in your profile I suspect you you may not have had a drivers license then. Would Ca accept that as a fact?

I would write each governs office with registered mail, as a protection if you end up in court while driving without a license. In the letter mention the fact that the 2 agencies can't or won't directly talk to one another. Call your representative. One thing to check before calling a representative, be selective and try and find one that is known for action, because they have courtesy within the fraternity of not entering into a problem that any other member of the fraternity has dealt with. So you only get one shot.

This thing with Fla, is just a nagging pita.
