1970 Overlander VIN

I just purchased a 1970 Overlander and am waiting on the seller to mail methe title. In the mean time, I am curious about the VIN. I found the plate by the side of the door and this is what I came up with (it was very worn)

Top - F96FJ

Bottom - 12710J115 (1's could be I's?)

Any help and input with this would be great. The link to the Airstream Faq's is not working.

Does anyone know how many digits the VIN number's were in 1970?

Thank you!
Heather

Thanks so much! I am really new to the Airstream World, but have always wanted one. The interior is totally original, and in AMAZING condition. In the last week, we have replaced the (original) tires, packed the bearings, got the exterior lights working (it hadn't been towed in over 20 years), and replaced the ceiling vents. We are taking it on a trip to Texas this weekend.

Well, let's see.

The first letter should be an I for International model--Trim package like in a car "LX or GL"

27 indicates 27 feet, signifying Overlander

1 is probably an I and denotes either where the bath or beds are located (rear bath, or center beds for example)

0 is for the year, 1970 model

J means that it was built in Jackson Center, Ohio (as opposed the other plant in Cerretos, California)

115 is the production number for this Overlander (Number 115 of XXX produced that year)

Check and see if maybe you are missing a digit (or maybe mistyped it?)

Welcome to the forums. Lots of good stuff here.

Jim
