Vintage Airstream AND classic TV insurance

Our ''71 Buick convertible, which is our TV, is nearing completion of a 2 1/2 month restoration. Obviously it's value has increased considerably. These 2 1/2 months I spent making upgrades on our '66 Trade Wind including installing a floating cork floor. Even before the floor we realised that in the 4 years we've had the TW we have made many upgrades. We need to increase our insurance on both. Our insurance, who we've been with for 26+ years seems reluctant to insure both at vintage values especially if the Buick is a TV. We want one company that will do both. Progressive has been mentioned in past threads on this. We would like to hear from those 'in the know' that have Progressive or any other vintage AS and classic car insurance and whether or not you are pleased with the service.....for the money.

Thanks,
Neil.

We have four antique vehicles and insure them Hagerty Collector Car Insurance. You can reach them at 800-922-4050. I have been with them for 25 years. They are much more reasonable than mainstream insurers on collector vehicles. They also insure at agreed value as opposed to what is in some book.

I also recommend checking with Haggerty. Had my 1951 Chevy Styline insured with them. They insured me for the appraised value without any question.

If you plan to drive the pair in anything other than parades or car shows, I don't think Haggerty is going to be a help to you. I looked at them when insuring my 1st generation BMW M5 and asked it I'd be able to drive it to work, store, etc on occasion. That was a no go, so I just insured it with Geico, which I have all my other vehicles and Airstream insured with.

i called progressive as they were also recommended in the forums - as of april 2010 they no longer do 'agreed value'. i called farm and city and they did agreed value (via progressive). some how they have the secret 'in'.

Be sure to get in writing they cover "both" the trailer and car. No long ago, Statefarm was the only company that covered you in case of a problem pulling a trailer with a vintage TV. Hunt Jones did a write up on this in Airstream Life a few years ago.

Many of the classic cars insurance company's would insure the car, but not cover you if it was pulling a vintage trailer.

Be sure to check the policy and get it in writing.

Hi, Neil. My 59 Galaxie has been insured by "J C Taylor" for decades. Try them. I pay a certain amount depending on how much I want it covered for. I don't know if they cover trailers or not, but you can ask them.

Thanks for your replies. My Allstate agent says they insure classic cars through Hagarty. I will try that route but my agent is not sure about the trailer. J.C. Taylor according to their website only insures the car for limited use. Most likely a no for towing. I hope to find a company to insure both the trailer and car. Allstate insures our Trade Wind for 'agreed value' and was super with a $3200 claim. I'm not sure what they'd say about an increased 'value'.
Any other experiences?
Neil

Still searching. Grundy said that they would insure both. But, I just got word that they thought the Airstream trailer I was speaking of was a car transport and storage for the car. They won't insure a TV. Same with Hagarty. My current insurance, Allstate will insure classic vehicles and Airstream and towing is ok but the premium is almost double the other carriers.
Neil.
