New to the USA, Insurance advice needed!!

Hi, My husband and I are moving to the US this summer,Long Island, New York State. We have just bought a 26ft Overlander 1962. It has been towed by a shipping company onto an off road location, ie private land. We do not intend to tow it again for sometime now while it gets restored . Not sure what kind of insurance we should be looking at to get? We both have UK driving licenses, although my husband is a US citizen. Not sure if this info is relevant when insuring a trailer. If anyone has any advice on where to start looking for insurance, what type and how much we should be expecting to pay that would be great! Many Thanks

The laws vary from state to state but in most states the liability policy on the tow vehicle covers any liability incurred due to a crash involving the trailer, so no separate trailer policy is necessary.

Comprehensive and collision coverage is available that will reimburse you for loss or damage to the trailer due to theft, weather, collision, etc. Getting truly adequate coverage (that will actually pay out in the event of a claim) is problematic for older, restored trailers, so many do without.

Costs vary widely so you have to shop around. I'm paying around $600 a year presently but rates are generally higher in New York.
