MH Sideswiped/Suggestions Please.

While watching television last night we suddenly heard two very loud crash type sounds from the street in front of our home, where our MH is parked.
So I get outside and see a car has run head on into another that was parked with the car that was traveling now sitting on the sidewalk, unoccupied. The car that got hit now about 3' out in the street.
Now the worst part- I go out into the street and sure enough our MH got sideswiped by the car before it hit the other parked car which stopped it.
There are car parts scattered all under & around our MH that match the unoccupied car now sitting on the sidewalk.
It was loud enough that every neighbor, except the one that owns the unoccupied vehicle, are now outside to see what's going on.
Police arrive, make out necessary reports, and tell me to contact my ins. co. for follow up.
This leaves me with a couple questions I hope forum members that have had something similar happen will chime in before I start talking to the ins. co. so I can be somewhat prepared to negotiate.

1. Can I insist that our MH be repaired by only a Dealer or AS Specialist such as Andy at Inland?
2. By looking at attached photo's does this look repairable or do I have the right to insist the panel be changed, how about the skin damage?
Are these parts even available anymore?
3. If I have a choice and decide to go out of state for repairs should transport costs be covered?
4. I do have full coverage but at this point I dont know what type of coverage the responsible party has.

I am sorry to hear about this to your cherished home,
I am sure others with much more experience than me will chime in on this issue, but the last time I had experience with something simular to this is your insurance will tell you to get 3 repair estimates from 3 different places, and most insurance companies will want to go with the cheapest. Although you are not required to accept this but will most likely mean you are going to end up in court. but AS's is not like regular vehicles either, you can just run to a junk yard and find these parts so you kinda are going to be dealing with dealers, AS factory, AS authorized repair person. There are a few scattered throughout the country. A dealer or the factory may be able to provide you with a list.

That damage should only be repaired by a AS dealer; I had a similar situation and my insurance company told me to take it where I wanted.

That's a shame. Did they take off the end of your sewer outlet? Looks like it could have been much worse though.

Lordy!!! You are living our greatest fear about the SI-2...mechanical stuff is so much easier to rectify...
Do you have uninsured motorist coverage?
I think I would INSIST on an approved AS repair location, and, yes, I think the transport to and from should be in the estimate, along with the incidental expenses involved in the repair operation(motel, dining, etc.).
I wish you luck and Godspeed...

All you need to do, is contact your insurance company wi8th the information.

You advise them where you will be taken the coach.

Get a claim number, so that when your at the dealer of your choice, that dealer then writes the estimate, contacts the insurance company, and they will come out to take photos, and approve the estimate on the spot, provided it's a dealer that they have an experience factor with.

Anything short of that, places all the risks on you.

The insurance company will send a 2 party draft to that dealer, and when the repairs are completed, you make arrangements to pick up the coach, inspect the coach, and if it's to your satisfaction, you sign the draft, pay your deductible, sign the companies paper work, and your on your way. Transportation costs, are sometimes covered, if reasonable.

Your insurance company will pay for the repairs, and subrogate against the other party, for the full amount of the damage. When they collect, they will reimburse you for your deductible.

Suggestion though.

If any parts need to be ordered from Airstream, it must be done no later than the 12th of this month, as the parts department of Airstream will be closed the last 2 weeks of this month.

That being the case, the coach should be at a dealers, pronto.

Andy
