We purchased the basic anti theft devices: hitch and coupler lock. Yet did not feel totally comfortable. Since in these few months of AS ownership we have seen/heard of 5 thefts! 1 AS - forum member - & 4 sob. This worried us.

IIRC, Lojack works as long as the purchaser owns the vehicle in which it is originally installed, but, of course, everything is subject to change...

Went to get my dipstick tube at Mr. Goodwrench and saw a civilian version of those wheel locks that cops use to disable vehicles. It is applied to the wheel rim on both sides of wheel and basically locks into place, to where it won't allow the vehicle to roll. I didn't see a price but they're in stock. I thought it is a good idea but then I also remember the steering wheel lock and the brake pedal lock. I had both and eventually I stopped using them because it became a hassle to me to apply then remove every time I parked. I would think it's a little different for trailers though.

LoJack is a one time expense, see charges above. NO MONTHLY fees or extra hidden costs. Pay once, feel safe for as long as you have it.

Unless you want to move it to another trailer/vehicle, then you'll incurr in a "transfer" fee.

We had considered those wheel locks, but at $300 and up! plus the hassle to put them on&off and storing them...where?! NO, no!

Regarding Lo-jacks....

If you have an On-Star equipped vehicle (e.g. Chevy), they can locate your stolen vehicle too without having to buy a Lo-jack. I'm not sure if there is some way for a crook to disable it though; maybe break the roof-mounted antennae?

Yes, it can be disabled. I have done it twice, at the vehicle owner's request. Obviously I won't go into the specifics, but most criminals know what the logo for OnStar looks like, and will keep searching for a vehicle not so equipped.
Personally, I prefer a more proactive approach, like an electric fence module. I had success with one once as a deterrent to someone stealing gas from my car...I even got a free gas can and length of garden hose.

I just ordered a www.trailerlock.com unit for about $75. It's different in that it attaches to a lug nut in the wheel and then is covered over by a piece of steel. You can't take the wheel off. Unlike some of those other boots where a thief can take the wheel off with lock attached, chuck it and limp a dual axle trailer away with one wheel on the one side.
Good if you leave the trailer in one place for an extended period of time.

Thanks for the web address. The product looks good. One note of caution: they say the unit will not work for alloy, "mag", wheels. So those fortunate ones with alloy wheels may need a different solution. However, those of you with plain, old (no pun intended, yeah!) steel wheels might be very interested in this unit.
