I know this subject has come up more then once so I'm bringing it up again. I have gone through some threads on it and to me it's all hard to understand but insurance is hard to understand.
We are starting to venture out more away from the home front now that we feel we have the trailer road worthy. We called our agent and this is what we were told if we are towing our trailer with our insured auto and we caused damage it would be covered under the auto's insurance okay fine and dandy.
But what if the mother of all hail storms decides to blow through or the oak tree behind our house decided to up root so this is what we were quoted.
For $300 a year with a value of $7000 replacement and a $100 ded. we will have comp. and a $500 ded. collision also $10k of lib. if someone is injured in our trailer and $5000 personal contents I guess if it burns down.
My question is the replacement cost is so low and as we do more seems like we could say the value is more.
Let me here more feed back on you all's insurance and how most of you have your policy set up on these older trailers.

I purchased a 1969 18' Caravel and then found my homeowner/auto ins would not insure it. They gave me name of local company and they would not insure, so went on the net and got quotes from Progressive and a couple of others....Progressive was the least expensive, and also agreed to my replacement value...what I paid for trailer, plus sales tax I had to pay, plus the $1500 I plan to put into trailer over next six months. They were very easy to deal with.

We have our insurance through Progressive also. Looks like we may go with the quote.

check Foremost, on my 1977 25 footer it is around 250.00 gives me 9000.00 worth of coverage, 2500 on personal stuff, includes towing,roadside service,plus more I cant think of now, 1 800 628 4433

I don't know how insurance works but mine asked for some validation on the price I paid. Seemed high to him for a 40+ year old "trailer" - HA, now I have him calling it an AIRSTREAM. I downloaded some recent sales from ebay and one from here and he accepted my price which was PURCHASE + IMPROVMENTS (reasonable +up). There was no argument, just remember, if you're in an accident towing, the car insurance pays, so have enough coverage on the TV for this event.

As clancy boy said the the costs may need some validation. I also keep printouts from E-bay on current prices.
As far as hailstorms, ect. go, when the trailer is parked it's covered under my home owners.
You may need a rider to cover the full replacement cost if a disaster occurs. We got some on our antique "collectables" quite reasonably. Maybe a vintage unit could qualify for one of those if it won't fit into any other catagory.

I, too, was concerned about coverage for our little beauty. She looks like junk to most, but to us she's a treasure - and few things we own around here are regarded as more than mere possessions; easily replaced. So, if lost, stolen (shoulda seen the look on our agent's face when we suggested someone else might want to steal her) or damaged, what do we get? According to my State Farm insurance agent, we get what we can prove she's worth. Not easy.....we print out every ebay sale we can find for one like ours. So far, in three years, we have one. But we're always on the lookout for others.

We just returned from a family camping vacation. In a packed parkinglot style campground full of giant motorhomes, fancy trailers, and a fifth wheel camper that I'm quite certain was bigger than our 4 bedroom home, sat one cute, somewhat rough Argosy Minuet...ours. And we wouldn't trade her.

Hot Lava you explained all the truth. We all love our babies!! We also had a trip with the big monsters all around us. One morning I was out having my coffee sitting under the awning with my pink flamingos and I had this guy walk over from his big monster and ask me what year my Airstream was and I gladly told him a 75 he preceded to tell me when he got back home he was going to start looking for him one to re do. I just kinda smiled as he walked back to his big monster.

$15,000 replacement 7,500 personal property.With a $100.00 deductible $280.00 dollars a years.We have been with them for 6 years now so am not sure if that has anything to do with it.But it cover everything including the awning.

My insurance agent strongly urged me to keep EVERY receipt, print a copy of any identical or very similar trailers on eBay or elsewhere that showed a sale value of more than I was insuring mine for, and any time I added something of value to take and keep a picture of it. With that I had no problem getting the value I asked for on the insurance and they actually came back and suggested I up the replacement value by three thousand dollars. It cost $28 dollars more per year. First time I've ever been impressed by an insurance company. I'm in BC, Canada but my trailer insurance beyond the basic is through a third party insurance company. The importance of keeping the aforementioned info was reinforced again this year when we went to renew so obviously they put a lot of value on these documents.

My lovley bambi got badly scratched across all its back panels but a scary incompitent builder who used her to rest his ladder.
His firm have agreed to pay for repair but sadly the only place over here (the UK is an airstream desert!!!) whi could polish it out have said they are too deep>>>>>
so what do I ask for compensation? Any ideas gratefully recieved PLEASE !!
