I have been trying since late April to obtain coverage for my 1984 Airstream 31 ft Excella.
My car insurance company will not approve physical damage coverage because there is some light hail on the rear of the trailer that is only cosemetic. I admitted the dimples were there and provided pictures when they asked for them.
They also say the trailer is too old.
Where are some of you finding coverage for your trailers. I have one company that is willing to cover the trailer for $455 a year. Is this reasonable? I was lead to believe that $250 should be about right.
I am a life insurance agent, not a property/casualty agent. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
You might consider Foremost. They specialize in RV's. They also are good for vintage Airstreams since they recognize the collector value of restored units. They insure my Safari.
I have Nationwide. When I called, they just asked me how much we paid for it. I think it added less than 10 bux$ to my total insurance bill on my pickup truck.

I have State Farm on my house, 4 vehicles and my Airstream. They based my fee on the purchase price of $7,600. I think I pay a little over $200 per year. I received quotes from Camping World and one other I can't remember and State Farm was cheaper (probably because I have all my other insurance through them).

Found RV Insurance for $163 from RV Alliance America.
This is only $300 less expensive than Foremost and or Nationwide. www.rvaa.com is the web site.
Thanks for your suggestions.
One thing to keep in mind is that Foremost usually quotes a policy that has some extra services. You can delete these if you wish. I know I have towing which covers the trailer and the tow vehicle (they will tow both if the tow vehicle is disabled), there is trip interruption coverage, and in my case I have replacement coverage for the first 5 years of my policy and original cost paid coverage for years 6 through 10.
Obviously all of that carries some weight in the total premium so when comparing prices you might get into an apples and oranges situation.

Possibly because I was formerly an insurance agent back in the dark ages, I have always taken a dim view of insurance companies that inflate their rates far above what is required to get the job done. Highway robbery, 'fyask me... But so common that we've all just about gotten used to it.
I have a 1984 Excella 31, practically new condition, that is currently fully-insured by the National Interstate Insurance Co., 3250 Interstate Drive, Richfield, OH 44286-9000, for exactly $179.00 PER YEAR! The agent's name is Sherrie Phillips, 1-800-748-0351, ext. 517. I just called her five minutes ago to make sure she was still there and described the jist of this thread; she said she can get good insurance for just about anyone who is a good risk for annual premiums in a similar range as mine. She's waiting by the phone if you want to give her a shot. They have always been very nice to me and I think most of them are members of one large family.
Just thought you'd want to know about this. I have never met the people at that agency, I don't have any affiliation with them at all, I was given their name by the original owner of my Airstream who used them for many years herself, and I have no other reason for telling you this except to try and same you some money like I saved money with this company. My car insurance people would have insured the machine for more than twice what I paid National Interstate for similar insurance. Jason Brooks

To me service is the name of the game. I sort of consider insurance pricing with the attitude that there is always somebody out there cheaper if you keep on looking. So the bottom line to me is if the company is competitive and gives good claims service, that's the one to stay with. Keep in mind that RV's have lots of goodies like awnings, tv antennas, etc. so you do have to shop wisely to make sure that the coverage you get will meet your expectations.
