I also heard the titles will NOT be stamped "salvage". I don't know how with warped floors like that.

If that is the case, there is a very good possibility then will wind up as "Used" Airstream" for sale.

Airstream and Thor should step in to insist the titles reflect the circumstances. You know they will get blamed when the buyers are plagued with gremlins.

Airstream knows about these trailers. Given that an "act of God" has intervened, I doubt anyone could successfully ask for warranty coverage for most of the trailer. Perhaps the roof items would be covered.
It's not a good situation for anyone. Airstream may well get unfairly blamed, but it has no control over what a seller may tell a buyer. Sorting out warranty claims will be difficult and time consuming. A buyer may think he or she has gotten a good deal on a trailer and find out otherwise. Sellers (there could be a chain of them in several states) may get sued. Because of the sludge that passed through these units, innocent people may have their health affected. The question of a salvage title or not will be affected by state law, but even if they end up with a salvage title, it is unlikely it will tell on its face what happened. Someone may think it was restored from a highway accident and not know about the possibly toxic soup that flowed through it.
Caveat emptor applies in practice and although most states have consumer protection laws, it's difficult and expensive to use them. Those laws can be used very effectively of they apply to the situation; it's worth checking.
The fact they went for an average of $11,000 each means if anyone wants to turn these fast, they may have to do a quickie cleaning job and tell lies to sell them. We may see in the near future, ads for these trailers and/or questions from new Forum members: "Is this a good deal on a new (used) Airstream" or "I got a great deal and this thing smells funny and I feel sick".

No joke. I work for a company that transports campers. They were listed on our load board this morning.

Thanks Trent. I sorta suspected (and hoped) that an outfit like Colaws won the bid. That would at least ensure that a reputable bunch would recycle these poor babies properly and not sucker in an unsuspecting NUG.
Like others have said in this thread, I'll bet they show up here again at some point. Sad.

Excellent question. But what about the other five?
I've got to think that the GA dealer self-insured. A normal insurance company would have assumed ownership once they were totalled. That would have resulted in a salvage situation. Gene? Thoughts?
So we've got still-valid titles & VINs out there? How would Jackson Center get out from under warranty issues? There may be more shades of shady here than we can imagine....

Some sort of deal between the insurance company and the dealer? But there was a previous dealer and somehow CW took them over. Who knows who owned them? Maybe a bank ended up with the titles and just consigned them to CW after the original dealer failed. Insurance may have lapsed once the trailers got moved around and no one was watching. Does CW have a self insurance system for their franchises? If a bank held the titles, they can be extremely sloppy about insurance. Also, the state with the most failed banks this year has been—guess?—Georgia! So one scenario of many would be a failed dealer defaults on the notes on the trailers, the bank holding the paper fails, FDIC transfers the good assets to a solvent bank, someone ends up with the trailers and it goes to auction fast to get it off the books. It did get auctioned very fast after the flood. There are plenty of scenarios.
In many of these scenarios the title just gets transferred. Maybe they'll jump title, and no one will be wiser.
Airstream is not responsible for damage caused by a 3rd party or things like floods. The owner is supposed to have insurance for that. Airstream is responsible for bad workmanship, negligent acts of theirs, and such. Someone may make a claim a year from now that the frame is rusting away (one example of many claims that could be caused by multiple events including but not limited to flooding in Ga.) and then Airstream will look at the VIN and see where the trailer came from. It may or may not make sense to pay for the repair, depending what Airstream can prove. The ultimate owner of the trailer may not know until then about the flood.

Thinking of tossing a bid for the lot...we'll tow em' all to Tijuana, gut em' out, and install new hand carved cabinets, fuzzy fringe balls hanging from the top of the windows, lots of 'tuck and roll' upholstrey, and perhaps some 'hydraulics' to make em' 'jump'...
Have sent my paperwork back to Delaware to incorporate a new company called, 'MexStream'....
"Hey misster, want a good deal on a shiny new trailer?"
On the bright side, AS now will get some more new orders for stock rigs in Georgia! Let's get this economy moving...

I have been told the one of the claims specialists who is handing the flood that YES, CW is self insured. They have insurance for their own campers that were on the lot, but unfortunately not for any of their customer's who were using them.
Gallagher Bassett Services Inc is the 3rd party involved.

warning, warning, danger, danger
I am kinda thinking of the Crocodile Hunter.
In my opinion, there is no more informed, and intelligent corporate entity on the subject of Airstreams than this forum. I would, however, caution everyone on here to be fair and factual, or indicate to the otherwise.
Speculation is Rumor, and although I believe we have the Airstream Community's best interests at heart, it is best we speak not from speculation.
I have to admit, this here thread, although a bit rocky at first has been enjoyable. Thanks to the forum for putting up with me for probably posting this under the wrong sub-forum, but what the hey, it has worked out. 2air is even still reading this-I thought he was a goner from the get-go.
My understanding of titles is as follows: a manufacturer does not title a vehicle; instead they issue a "Manufacturer's Statement of Origin" an MSO, if you will. I have heard other acronyms for this type of document. When the vehicle is sold (retail) at whatever dealer, in whatever state/country, then it is registered and titled in that governing authority's geographical area. So, if this is true, then the new AS's would still be on an MSO-IF-a salvage sale did not require them to be titled where sold. The two used AS's should have had a title issued-once in the system, the unit is used. Even if sold at an auction, and purchased by another dealer.
So, I contacted the Salvage Company's representative and point-blank asked them if these units will be titled as salvage. The answer was "Yes, they will be titled as salvage-the companies that purchased these units are aware they have 30 days in which to title them as salvage."
These companies are well-known, have excellent credentials, and should be given deserved respect from us as a forum and as individuals.
So, let's use the smileys when joking, and take the edge off the seriousness just a little. Let's be fair and respectful.
Thanks a lot to everyone.

stopped by camping world today talked to a driver pulling one of them out. (the trailer lights worked!) He said an auction company called copart bought them I called them and they will be placed for auction. www.copart you will need to pay a membership fee (about 25 bucks) before you can bid and they will not be up for auction until they settle with the insurance companies. Their phone 770-941-9775. Not for me but if anyone is interested...have fun

Sounds like an insurance company had them auctioned and now they'll be auctioned again. I thought they were sold as a lot of 8, so why are 3 going to Utah? Must have been a joint venture of 2 or more buyers.
