Full Timer's Insurance on a New AS?
I have shopped around a few places, and so far the best deal I could find was Foremost. With a $250 deductible, $300k comprehensive liability, $54k full replacement, and $15k personal property, the premium came out to $1200/yr. I should also add that I have a perfect driving record. Does this seem like a lot to you folks?

Miller's -millerrvinsurance.com, specializes in full-timer's coverage. They will give you an on-line quote. Miller's phone: 1 800 622 6347. I decided on Foremost insurance.

hi zomby'
lots of threads on insurance so ya may want to search some....
pricing is always an issue with so many variables to consider.....
driving record, location (ny is high right?) deductible, coverage and so on...
that said, i would not buy foremost if it was free.....
and you do realize this is a division of farmers ins group?
imo they provide very poor repair/replacements coverage and claims service....
i did however compare their rates to the others....
progressive had the best rate and coverage options for my needs.
if you are over 50 aarp has a plan (hartford?) and also look at the good sam club coverage....these were all still much higher than progressive for me....
progressive seemed to have the best coverage and price and 'rv' focused policy...
i'm at approx 1000$/yr for a 34ft classic....
-full replacement cost coverage....so a 70-100k$ trailer coverage....
-1000$/500$ deductible.....this is the 'sweet spot' for cost/benefit/deduct curve....
-the usual add ons....towing, motels, contents, visitor liablilty and so on....
-disappearing deductible....25% each year claim free...
this is a nice benefit....
my deduct has already dropped to 750$/375$ at one year renewal.
-and rv style comp/collision issues....THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT
-towing to a 'qualified' dealership means an airstream shop which is nice.
progressive is well rated/reviewed from the rv crowd......
i would have liked to go with my t.v. insurer....aig.....but they didin't have a real 'rv' policy.
when shopping....there is no reason to tell them you are 'full time' just indicate trailer will be used >180 days per year.....that's the number that matters for rates. and who knows you may change your plans in a few months....
cheers

Seems a bit high to me. Perhaps it is your location and deductible?
$1,000 deductible, $300k comprehensive liability, $64k full replacement, $10k personal property, emergency towing, and emergency expense coverage (up to $750.00) ... and my premium is only $576.
My insurance is with AON.

Explorer RV Insurance
Has anyone had any experience or dealings with Explorer RV Insurance company. The quote they gave me was $569 anually for a rating basis of $51,000 coverage and clean driving record. That is with a $500 deductible and total replacement cost coverage. That seems rather reasonable, but I don't know much about them.
Appreciate any information

Places like Miller's, AON, and Explorer are insurange agents who work with several different insurance companies. So, when you say that you're paying "$XXX" in premiums, we should also know which company the insurance was placed with.
It's difficult for 2 people to compare insurance rates unless they live in the same town, are insuring the exact same type of RV, and have the same exact coverage. Even then, the rates for these 2 people may be different based on their driving records and even their credit ratings.
Additionally, fulltimer's insurance will be more than if you were covering your RV under an auto policy because fulltimer's insurance includes "homeowners" insurance (because the fulltimer, supposedly, no longer has a sticks and bricks house).

Get multiple quotes
I think the only way to know if you are getting a good price is to compare coverage and rates with several companies. Try and go to a local insurance agent, too. I do find value in having someone local to be able to talk to in person.

I got several quotes, which most were about twice as much as Explorer RV for the same coverage. That's what made me question how the company could do that. The local ins companies did not specialize in RV insurance and their quotes were in the ball park with the higher priced specialized companies. elh3946, you are right. The company that underwrites the insurance that Explorer is selling is National Interstate Insurance Company, which has a good rating. I probably will buy insurance from them unless someone has had a bad experience on claims. Thanks for your information.

With a 'A' rating from AM Best, the Company apparently has the $$ to continue to operate ... although A+ is a better rating - my personal choice.
What should be the next most important things to evaluate are their Coverages & Exclusions. This is what you can use to evaluate the quality of the policy they offer.
You should be able to request or download a generic RV (trailer) policy from them that will provide you with this information. Read it through and through!!! Most often, you get what your pay for. If the premium is much lower than other well know underwriters - there is a reason!
Isn't Explorer RV an Agency, not an underwriter? If so, they may be partly owned by an underwriter, but may place your policy with any of various Companies. Personally I would look into that if I was shopping for insurance.
Good Luck.
When all else fails ... just go with Progressive.

We have fulltimers insurance with National Interstate, too (through AON). We've never had to file a claim (knock on wood!), so I have no knowledge of how their claims service is.

With a new trailer you can get replacement value coverage which may be beneficial if something catastrophic happens to your trailer. In some cases the terms differ slightly between companies. Other than a major accident the other thing we all fear is hail, which has the ability to total a trailer once it gets a few years on it. I know Foremost and Progressive both had that option. If you are looking at equivalent dollars, you might find that getting replacement coverage might swing you to a specific provider.
With the increases that Airstream is applying each year, its nice to know that at least initially I could replace my trailer with the same model even though the cost has gone up.
Regards,
Jack
