Just a heads up for those insured with Blue Sky. My policy is up for renewal on 7/1/15. Last year, I paid $715 to insure my 2013 22' Sport with Blue Sky. The premium for this next year? Over $1000, about a 50% increase. No claims, no tickets, trailer is garaged indoors and we put less than 5,000 on it a year. When I replied to the renewal email asking about the increase, I was told that Blue Sky is increasing all their rates because they've lost money 2 years in a row and "can't afford" to stay in business without increasing premiums across the board. Raising the good customer's rates so exorbitantly that they jump ship sure doesn't seem like a good business survival strategy to me, but what do I know? Anyone else seen their Blue Sky premiums increase? Any suggestions for the next company to try?

Insurance rates are based on too many veritables to base on what anyone else is paying. I currently have AARP/Progressive. They had the best coverage and premiums for me.

USAA/Progressive. In the 250 range for a 2 year old trailer. I assume rates are also tied to one's driving record.

We're using GEICO, but our trailer is 2014 so we've yet to venture into "agreed value" territory.

We are with Allied (Good Sam) on a stated value policy on our 2014 Classic which reflects the over $40k in improvements made since new. Annual premium is around $1,100 with five year guaranteed replacement.

Tallen as I was shopping for my Classic I did the insurance through Americas Mailbox. They do multiple vendors and I ended up with Triumphe/National Interstate.

Now that I know this, I'll have to add them to the list for future consideration.

To answer the question above, Yes, our GEICO policy has a rider for Comprehensive Total Loss Replacement Cost and Collision Total Loss Replacement Cost, which are only available until the RV reaches its 5th model year. After that, I guess we'll have to find someone who will insure for a stated value. We carry both Comprehensive and Collision coverages to qualify for Total Loss Replacement Cost Coverage. Deductible is $500.

We also insure our cars with GEICO. If I'm reading all this stuff right, the AS adds roughly $460 to our annual insurance bill.

I am not a Buffet fan either, so Geico is not on my good list either....

On topic, even if Blue Sky doubles my rate, it wont cost me $500 a year.

check out AARP, The Hartford is their insurer. I also carry Good Sam road hazard.

I looked at several and found this to be the best. I have been with them for over 30 years. They are primarily on the east coast.

I insure my auto & truck, Airstream 25 Safari, home and liability umbrella with GEICO and only pay $158 every six months for the airstream. I don't have replacement coverage and it is not available through GEICO. They insure for what they call cash value which is similar to Blue Book on an auto.

ACV could be a lot less than your Airstream is worth. The blue book and others treat it like a white box, which becomes nearly valueless quickly.

Yep, once our Rocinante is too old to get complete replacement coverage from our regular carrier, we'll be switching to one that will insure (and hopefully replace!) based on stated value vs. blue book value.

Agreed value with appraisals every couple years is the way to go. I have noticed the ASKING price of my model and vintage of AS seems to be rising with the newer model year price hikes. Something to stay on top of, IMO. I doubt NADA will take these things into account.

This is a good heads up, thank you. I recently entered into a Blue Sky Replacement/Purchase Price, Diminishing Deductible stuff etc., including road side assistance insurance plan. I used an insurance agency that specializes in high end RVs that are typically hard to insure through normal insurance programs. They also represented others like Progressive etc that carry replacement coverage. They did recommend Blue Sky for two reasons: lowest cost for a 5 year replacement coverage and easy to work with if you are unfortunate and have to use this style of coverage.

My plan quoted is for a $78,000 Airstream and the annual premium $775/yr for a $1,000 deductible. A $500 deductible is $872/yr. All the other buzz and whistle coverages too.

I thought this was pretty high given what I could have insured through traditional RV coverage through my USAA plans, but I wanted replacement coverage which USAA does not offer. Also, I believe the next closest replacement coverage plan to Blue Sky was around $1,200-1,300 they quoted me. I was planning on utilizing Blue Sky for a couple of years but if I get the surprise you have experienced then I will have to go back to traditional insurance next year.

You mentioned that Blue Sky said they can no longer afford to offer these rates. Maybe they are right given how far lower than they are to their competition .Apprently, they are still capable of giving first time clients a good deal and then stick them on the second year. I guess I will find out next year!
