We are in MA
As we understand it, our auto policy covers the trailer when hitched and our homeowners insurance covers the trailer when not hitched. We have no specific insurance policy for the trailer itself.
I hope you found my old post, because I looked at this hard last year. We did get a quote from a company called Foremost, when I asked the difference between what that coverage is and what we have now, this was the response from the agent:
Good morning Ted,
I hope you are having a nice morning,
I guess there is no major difference between having the airstream on your auto policy or having it on a separate policy EXCEPT if the trailer was stationary at a camp ground for an extended period of time there would not be coverage. Any vehicle (trailer) located for use as a residence or premises will not be covered under the auto policy.
You pull your trailer and go from place to place so you are fine to leave it as is. If you were to park it in a campground and leave it for a season you would need to get a separate policy for the trailer.
Travel trailers are grey areas but it all depends on the use.
I guess that answers that question.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Contact Charles at Americas Mailbox. 605-718-1234 He can pull multiple company quotes for you. Very surprised that there isn't coverage available from the companies you have checked.
Also be careful with the auto/homeowners policy. Simple example. What policy covers the trailer while it is stored at a storage lot, or at a service facility waiting outside for service and a severe storm with wind shear rolls the trailer over totaling it?
And any agent that writes " I GUESS there is no major difference..." would not be an agent that I would use.

We pay about $700 a year for insurance on the trailer. Covers theft damage etc.
vehicle insurance covers motor vehicle liability etc.

I'm in Massachusetts and I insured with Liberty Mutual also. I have my house, 2 cars, my truck, an enclosed car trailer, and the Airstream all with Liberty. There was no big deal adding the Airstream nor was it expensive.

Foremost
We live in MA and use Foremost. The coverage is very good. We haven't had a claim, so can't comment on that.

I live in Mass also. Ditto on Liberty Mutual. It's a rider on the auto policy.
