Access Denied!

Last Monday morning I got a call from the manager at Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs, MI. It was the kind of call no one ever wants to receive. Apparently, someone had tried to break into my 2014 International! I jumped in my truck and made the two hour trip from home to the campground. When I arrived I found the police there making reports and learned that thieves had broken into 10 SOBs taking TVs and other valuables from each one. Mine was the only Airstream in the assault but they were unable to get in.
That’s the good news…the deadbolt held. The bad news is that the thieves destroyed the lock so that I couldn’t open the door! I called Chris Burch at Airstream and he told me to bring my damaged trailer to Jackson Center ASAP. When I arrived they drilled out the deadbolt lock right away so I could get inside. The thieves never got in and the damage is confined to the exterior. Looks like they’ll have to replace the lower panel on the door, too. They also damaged one of the two stanchions that connect the bike rack to the trailer when they tried to climb on the roof.

Makes me sick but could have been MUCH worse...

I am sorry to hear of your problem. I am glad to hear that they didn't make it inside and do any further damage. I am also glad to hear that you have been able to get your Airstream to Jackson Center to get it expertly repaired.

I took a look at the website for Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs, MI. It looks very nice and peaceful. It doesn't appear to be the kind of place where an RV break-in of this magnitude would occur.

Thanks, the people at Airstream have been great. The insurance company responded right away. I guess we'll see how far that goes... I'll keep you posted.

Yes, I thought so too. I asked the park manager who lives on site about security and he said there had never been an incident in the nine years that he had been there and the police confirmed that.

happens to the best of them. Only way to keep a place really safe is roaming guard dogs during the night, bad news if you are going to pick up something real early or real late..

short of that, you have good insurance and hope they pay cause the storage lots bears no responsibility for the loss..

Be interesting to see how this play out and how and whom the insurance company you deal with handles this issue..
