There was a great article in the Good Sam magazine this month about financing RVs and being upside down on the payments and value of the RV. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about financing an RV.
I haven't read the article yet, but that is a risk when you stretch out a loan that far, especially when it's a loan for total purchase price. I know some auto dealers are now selling an insurance plan that protects you from an upside down situation in case of loss of the vehicle.
From a lending situation, (I used to be in banking), RV loans are probably one of the safest loans made. Folks consider RV's their homes and when crunch time comes, they will skip the payment on the car, credit cards, etc., but not the payment on the home and the RV. Delinquency percentages on RV's are much lower than automobiles and trucks.

We recently, November 12th, bought a new 2006 Bambi QuickSilver at our new Colorado Springs Airstream dealership, Intermountain Coach thru Roger Pruter. We went thru Thor for finance. Our rate was 7% for 15 years. Checking with our local credit union, they were 10%, OUCH! Good Luck.
So glad to see that there are NEW AS owners that are keeping the obsession alive! It seems that there are more than a lot of finance rates, terms and etc... Hey, they gotta eat too. Just not by taking $ out of my wallet.
We went the 'paid for' route. Bought used for that very reason. Couldn't really "see" having a payment, especially on something that depreciates so significantly from the git go. Of course, I now don't get that tax writeoff several have mentioned - that's OK. I just go camping instead!
Everyone enjoy your unit, go camping, and spend as much time with your family as you can - they grow up and it all goes so fast that it makes my head spin!
Hi, we got a 2005 25' classic last year with a dealer finance through Bank of America for 5.5%.
I am so glad we did this because the people we have met through the New England unit have been the best!!!
We are so looking forward to the start of the new camping season.

Rates sound to good to be true... unless it's buying through their RV dealership... then they can mark it up... I didn't like the way they skated out of answering "who we are" - sounds like fast salesmanship talking. They make claims but don't back it up with proof:
" In fact we are owned by one of the top RV dealers in the country and we know what it takes to get deals done and have the remarkable creativity to make it happen."
Thing is, to find out anything, you have to send 'em personal info. NEVER a good idea... Seems kind of fly-by-night...

On another forum I am a member of, a member posted that he found the SOB toy hauler of his dreams at Camping World and was quoted the MSRP for the "best deal" they could give him because he wanted to finance through CW. The salesman told him to get anything off of the list price, he would have to come with his own financing...supposedly this purchaser had good credit rating.
Needless to say, I'd be looking for my own financing AND another dealer of that particular brand of SOB!

All I can offer is that you have to shop around. I talked with the AS dealer and when we started, his was the best rate I found. Rates went up and down while we were looking. We finally found what we were looking for and made our purchase - an '07 International 25' Ocean Breeze. Found the best financing with my local banker due, primarily to our credit score (over 800). She beat all others with her rate. I looked on line and contacted them - they were advertising 4.9% but couldn't quote me anything near that amount. I had five or six banks call me from my on-line inquiry but none could match my local banker. Shop around - it's amazing what you'll find.
Earlier this week, the WSJ had a story about GE Financial dropping consumer RV financing August first. Thor was one of the companies GE is dropping.
GE is also ceasing production of home appliances. I think this is just part of their restructuring. They will probably sell both, and other parts of their business, to other companies that specialize in those fields.
