What a disappointment

Just happened to see an ad in the paper yesterday, "Airstream $1,100, great for deer camp". Knowing it would be in terrible shape, I called. The conversation went something like this, "Yup, big silver trailer with only one dent, doesn't leak, pretty good shape inside, everything works, don't know the age but owned for 9 years, no title, about 25' long, single axle, and yup, its an Airstream". Got all excited thinking I might have found a project (not really looking for one). After driving for an hour, I pulled up in front of the house and there it was, a big silver trailer with a stove pipe sitcking out of the roof! Naturally it wasn't an Airstream. It was old and square fronted with enough tar on the roof seams to pave a short road.

Maybe next time.

I went through two of these trailer hunts before I found my Caravel.

1st was a true deer camp - flooded every year when the creek would rise. A real mess.

The 2nd was an Avion - not what I was looking for but advertised as an Airstream - "No one can tell the difference!!!" I was told.

One I missed on was a '65 Caravel - in perfect original condition, "Grandma only drove it to church on Sunday's" type of camper. Went home to think about it - poof it was gone.

It's all in the hunt......

Our Excella was actually a deer camp for about 7 years. From just hearing about it we hoped to fix it up some and sell it at a profit, but when we saw it in person we realized it had to be totally gutted. We managed to save a few light fixtures but that was about it. So then it became the car-hauler project!

Susan even managed to find a ratty old playboy magazine stuffed in the back of one of the living room cabinets. That right there has to be clear proof that the trailer WAS used in a deer camp

deer trailer

My wife will not let the guys use the 87 for deer hunting. So I use the 71 globetrotter every year.It still is in real nice shape. everything works, but need to work on the tambour doors. Leaving wed. to use for turkey hunting and then bow hunting. Susan I was parked across the street from you last week. (Had the flying goose). Jerry

There are a lot of people who think that if it's an old trailer, it's an Airstream.
