Valuation of 1958 Traveler?
Hi all! We just purchased a completely original 1958 traveler. Family-owned from 1960 and it was always garaged. Unfortunately it's painted silver. Body is in excellent condition. Just for my peace of mind, what would you recommend as a current valuation? Should mention there's new tires too and all systems work. We plan to strip and polish it by ourselves. Any advice would be appreciated! Let's call her Buttercup!!!

with the history you tell the fact it is painted sounds very odd to me. Can we see some photos?

This will give you an idea...
Price vs. Condition
Be sure to read all the back-up info when determining your estimate...many people just go straight to the matrix. Without knowing the true condition, the matrix is only half the story. From the pics, your trailer looks to be in pretty good "average" shape...

Great year!!
Love the 58s!!!
Not many Travelers out there. Painted... ye gods!! Hope it's not hiding some huge dents that have been bondo'd... it is a sweet little trailer. How is the floor? Looks like it is in really, really, great shape. Worth - you want a number... I'd say $7500 in its current condition... for me, the paint brings the value down a bit.

Thanks for the info!
Would the value change significantly if we stripped off the paint?
The trailer has been family-owned and in the barn since 1960, and was previously owned by a mini-celeb.
We're new to the Airstream world and appreciate your advice!

Depends on if the paint is hiding something and how the skin was prepped before painting. It could be worse underneath...if it was scratched up before painting or filled with Bondo. I would say leave it - it looks good.
The value wouldn't "double" IMO - well, maybe it would double if it was stripped and polished - but it'd be a heck of a lot of work. Strip and polish is what you'd have to do to make it worthwhile. The worst thing would be...to strip it & find something that would make you want to re-paint it. Then you've taken steps backwards.

And, while they are darling, the Travelers/18-Footers don't have the cachet of some other models, so won't command quite as high a price all things considered.
Why are you so worried about what it's worth?

Is worrying a bad thing? Well....we're a family of number crunchers, both in business and in athletics. Maybe more time on the road relaxing with an Airstream will help.
So SummerKid, what would you recommend as a fair market value for this trailer?
