Question Suggested price for my grandfather's Avion?

Hi! Hopefully my request is in the right area...

My Dad needs to sell my (deceased) Grandfather's '78 Avion Camper. He tried selling it a while ago, but to no avail, and I am trying to rejuvenate his efforts! I am looking for feedback on his asking price.

Here are the details he posted locally but we haven't gotten many nibbles:

Classic 78 Avion 22’ Dodge 440 MH Class C, 10,000 lb towing, runs & handles great! 4 sleeper, 103.9k unit mi, eng & AT overhauled 73k mi, exc. mechanical condition, Onan 4K generator low hrs, extras and new paint, all original interior, except new frig, roof air, microwave & carpet, some upholstery wear, ready to road. Asking $8,900 obo. (that was a few years ago)

What do you think? Too much? Just right? Other important missing details?

Welcome to the forums, Apecrazy. Vintageairstream.com has a special section called "Price vs. Condition" that may be valuable for you in determining an appropriate price for your dad's rig. Here's the link to that site:

Avion and Airstream are different company's, kinda like Ford and Chevy. best to post it on http://my.execpc.com/~drg/avionfsw.html as Avion fans will be there and can be helpful. Good luck - it looks like a nice rig!

Hi apecrazy -- welcome to the forum!

Determining value would require assessment of so many variables... quality & market factors both. But an approximation could be arrived at by looking at Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values

Wow... if you get those pictures in front of the right person, they'll pay your asking price for the upholstery alone! If I were in the market for a MoHo I'd want it.

These motorhomes come up for sale from time to time on Craigslist the past two years. I generally give them a look. Only one of four/five I remember look as good as this (almost).

There is no substitute for pictures. The interior of every compartment, inside and out. The roof and the chassis underside. All exterior angles. The interior from every angle (including shower pan). Numbers, dates of service, etc. I'd have more than 50 available online.

The more information for the individual buyer, the better. And some info on AVION, its' high quality and rarity. Most see an old moho and pass on to a newer one.

Wouldn't hurt to do a compression test on the engine and post numbers. Info on fluid changes, brake service, and tire age as well.

The right buyer will travel long distance, but wonders how much money & work to get it back home.

Work from the expectation that it will take 4-6 months to sell it.

Sorry. I completely missed the mark that this is a motorhome.

Why don't you get in touch with Fred and ask his opinion? Fred's Airstream Archives @ ViewRVs.com - Used Travel Trailers and MotorHomes For Sale
