Question about selling.

I have a 86 sovereign air stream. I have had it for a couple years since I bought it from the original owner. My family has grown and we need something a little bigger. Just can't sleep 3 girls and parents. My question is what is it worth. I would say it is in ok shape. Second question is where is a good place to list it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum Tbugher. If you're a supporting member, here at this site. If not Craigslist with your phone number... if you're serious. Look at Onecraigs, E-bay's completed sales, or this site for price comparisons. Clean it up good inside, and wash, wax, armorall tires outside. Make sure everything works with your trailer, if not. be honest about it. Like lawn mowers, spring is the best time to sell trailers. Good luck.

Sorry to disagree but you do not have to be a supporting member to post an ad.

What is a ball park figure? Can I get 3000? It does need some work.

Put a perpendicular bunk into the bedroom and enlarge the sofa by pulling it slightly forward, then filling the space with an upholstered spacer. Bingo, five will sleep in comfort.

I stand corrected. Sorry about my bad information. With more pictures, I wouldn't be surprised if you sell it this month. Check your private messages.

Welcome to the forum!

Having had a 1985 25' Sovereign many years ago, I would say $3,000 US would be an absolute bare minimum of the market value. Not sure what you mean by "does need some work" -- but hopefully there have not been any major leaks and/or floor rot issues. Ditto for no mouse or varmint intrusion, including their waste material?

So many variables -- do the appliances all work? Any major dents in the exterior skin? How old are the tires/brakes/bearings etc.? Could a buyer hook up and tow her safely?

If you post more details, you may get better feedback on the value.

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- I would list it on nearby Craigslists, including the Seattle, SF Bay Area, and Denver markets. But be prepared for an onslaught of interested buyers, and -- unfortunately -- probably some scammers and folks looking for an unrealistically good deal. Your asking price should be much higher in my opinion, unless your intent is to get rid of her ASAP "as-is".

Hi, if you put it on eBay for $3000 on a buy it now price, it won't last a week. Is it towable? Does the lights work? If so, someone will pick it up very soon.

Yes it is towable and yes everything works. We used it all of last season. The fridge is new from last year. The outside does have a little hail which really beat up the ac unit. I can take a few more pictures from the inside.

EBay

Put it on EBay with no reserve and I bet you get at least $5k.

Then I think you are way low on the price, especially at this time of year. Just a seat of the pants guess, based on owning the 25' AS in the 90's mentioned earlier, but I would not be surprised if you could get $10,000 to $20,000 for a fully functioning older unit like yours. I actually prefer the decor from that era. Your photos brought back memories!

Do you have a tambour-doored spice rack on the wall? A photo of that would be nice to see!

Good luck,

Peter

Agreed, that is a more reasonable range for a camp-ready unit.

Peter's right. If I were selling it, I would

1. Make sure all the basics are good. Water pump, all plumbing, charger, battery, furnace.
2. Tires and brakes, wheel bearings are good.
3. Get a new shroud for th air conditioner.
4. Either you or a photo literate friend take some clear, we'll lit, focused photos.
5. "Ready to polish"

And I would advertise here not Craigslist. Too much chaff on Craigslist.

New shroud for the AC is about $100. I think $10,000 is a ball park figure. It is a nice enough unit that I would want to solve the bunking problem and keep it. Critical areas are the tanks and valves and frame. If they are all okay it is a good unit. You will find out more about what it is worth if you look at what it will cost to replace it with something that works as well.

I am wondering if you have listed the trailer for sale, and the details?

Thanks,

Peter

PS -- FYI I just noticed a listing for a similar 27' Sovereign in Ohio, for $10,500:

Thanks for the PM about your plans. Perhaps you could post an update here. At this time of the camping season, you might have some interest shown here IMO.

Happy Trails!
