Possible project

Came across a firesale airstream, the frig caught fire and the impact is not pretty. It is a 1971 Sovereign with extensive interior burn, basically looking at gutting the insides and redoing the covering of the interior panels. This is a twin model that I would prefer a double (can be changed). Would love some input before I make an offer. there are now broken windows from the fire department, and water damage from putting the fire out. The fire took place about 3 weeks ago. Any input is helpfull. Trying to consider fair value to offer the owner and cost to fixed value if I take on this project. I am not looking to restore the unit, my sons wants a Airstream to turn into a party/tailgait trailer.

Why not? Just gut it and put new interior walls in where you need to. I bet the walls that have not melted could be painted. Once you gut it you could do all kinds of new innovations to it.

I can't imagine that it has any value. Likely he will have to pay to get rid of it. Offer to take it away and he will be ahead.

If it was free it would make a good parts trailer. The cost of interior skin and trying to find end cap would ezpensive. Not to mention the warping of the exterior and possible structural damage the heat caused to the roof rib. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Did the owner have insurance on it? If yes, is the insurance company totaling the trailer? That may add some complexity to the title if it now becomes a salvage title. I don't know if FL does salvage titles, but just be aware. Also, if it is insured, you may end up dealing with the insurance company if it's totaled.

Good luck!

As I understand the Airstream was not insured. So it is his to sign off on.

I would say it has a negative value based on the damage.

I agree with Richard. That thing is a parts trailer now. It looks like the heat warped the ribs and buckled the exterior.

The one good thing would be that the rodent control problem should be gone! I would add that "smoke damage" is a very messy and in house fires the smell never really goes away! With al the 70's models out there and with it being a double (not what you want) I would pass on this trailer and find what you want! I do a lot of welding on aluminum and I know how much welding heat can mess with shaping the piece you are working on, now take much more heat and place it in the entire trailer and I would think that the body is bent and twisted way more than you would think! Your one picture of the out side shows what heat does to aluminum!

Move on! I wish you well in your search for your "Dream Trailer" not a "dead trailer"!!!

Todd
