One of the rare REAR bedroom 31'

The rear bedroom Sovereigns are not the easiest model to find...I know ..I had one.

Here is one in Georgia that could be a good buy for someone...

Then I guess we are really lucky! We just picked up a '73 Soveriegn last weekend (well, we made the deal...we finalize it this weekend) with a rear bedroom. We have a '74 Argosy 26' with rear bath we need to sell now, but we have been keeping an eye out for a rear bedroom configuration for months and finally got one. YAY! New projects for me and hubby.

My 31' Sovereign is a rear bedroom. Most are twins, some are queens. Not really all that rare...

You are fortunate. The rear bedroom sovereigns from that era are far less common than rear bath models.

Mike- I looked all over to find the one we had, which unfortunately was taken out in an awful storm. I had seen many rear bath models....very few rear bedroom ones

That picture makes me so sad, Alan! Those rear bedrooms are tough to find, but they are such great Airstreams!

In my experience the rear bedroom was rare. I looked at over 40 31' Airstreams built between 1975-1980, saw only 3 rear bedroom and only one was the full bed. The most common was the rear bath twin bed configuration. In that same search I only saw 1 rear bath with a double bed.

Hey all, I have a line on a 1976 31' rear bedroom. It's overall pretty straight and while it needs work, it is not in bad shape at all. What's a ballpark price I should shoot for? The asking price is $6k but it needs tires and the fridge needs repaired. Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks!

if the frame and floors are solid that is the biggest issue. It could be well worth 6. Tires are 500 and fridge could be 1200. Use that as a bargaining chip. You can always go up in offers. I suggest starting at 5 and see what you get...cash talks. Be sure to check the floor for soft spots all around with an ice pick or similar.

I have a rear bedroom, with the even more rare original full sized bed. Gonna hang onto it for another ten years at least.

I have a 1978 31' rear bedroom Sovereign. I paid $5,500 for it and the body is in good shape as well as all of the plumbing and electrical I can see so far. Only big issues are the black water tank not functioning and the leak in the front room which created mold on the floor and the couch (which we ripped up and threw out) Anyhow I was wondering if I paid a decent price for the trailer.

We bought a 1977 31' Sovereign rear bedroom (twin beds); everything works and thought we would need to make some minor frame repairs. Paid $3000. As it turns out the frame needed a lot of work and the very front and back floors (about 3-4' each end) are being replaced. We are replacing the twin beds with a queen mattress which will take up a lot of the available space. All in all I am happy with our purchase.

I went through about every rear bed configuration imaginable, twins, king, wall to wall rear bed, back to twins, finally found a shorty AS Queen out of a rolled trailer.

The problem with all of the bed configurations (except the twins) is that they are so hard to make up. As my wife and I approach mid 60ish it is harder and harder for us to fight the mattress covers as we are laying on them.

The shorty Queen allows for just enough room to walk around the perimeter of the bed to make up the sheets and covers.

See the dimensions and how I did it in the '78 Sovereign thread at the signature line.
