Newbie here! 1977 Globetrotter. What's it worth?

After 10 years of dreaming I've finally found an Airstream that ticks my boxes and looks like I should be buying it. A 1977 Globetrotter. It's been parked for about 8 years and the interior is completely unworn and original. The fridge doesn't work but the rest does. The outside has some corrosion since it's within 2 miles of the Pacific Ocean. Some scrapes also. What do you think it's worth and what should I be careful of? The propane tanks will come with her and i realize i may have to invest more money. I appreciate any help, and I'm located here in Los Angeles.

Hi Newbie! She is a darling. Regarding values, I found the following link to the Vintage Airstream website extremely helpful during my search. Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values
I assume the owner has demonstrated that everything works so you aren't taking their word for it. I had to replace my refrigerator, too, at about $1200 installed. You will find that propane tanks have to be inspected periodically so don't be surprised if you have to replace yours. I wonder about the tires. If it has been sitting for 8 years you may need to have them replaced and have the brakes checked.

We have had our trailer only a couple of months ourselves so that is all I have to offer at this point. Good luck!

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

Not a bad looking Airstream, but as far as true value goes, it is difficult to say without a lot more information. As has already been said, RV refrigerators are quite expensive, and you already know that you are going to have to do one of those.

You will absolutely need tires at about $100 each. Even if the tires have a lot of tread, they are at least eight years old (probably a lot older) and are therefore dangerous. There is also a very good possibility that this airstream is going to need brakes, and possibly a new axle.

You say that the interior in tattered. You are going to need to spend some money there also.

To determine value, take a look around Ebay and the Forums' Classified and see what similar units are going for. If the one that you are looking at is fairly decent and ready to camp, take its value and deduct what it will cost to put this one in comparable condition.

Good luck in your pursuit of your Airstream.

Brian
