New 2008 Safari Sport 22'

Hello all. New to the forum. Lots and lots to read. Have one specific question as my wife and I have been looking at some Airstream trailers.

There was a dealer in my area for a while. They stopped dealing in Airstreams several years ago. They have been selling out their inventory, each year marking prices a little lower. I have been watching the lot clear out over the last few years. They are down to four units. Not sure how to value a "new" trailer that is dated 2008. It's depreciated, but it isn't really "used".

awning
convection/microwave
13,500 btu a/c
video upgrade (tv)

Still under warranty from Airstream for 12 months from date of purchase.

What seems like a fair purchase price?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

Hi, we are just up the road in Huntington and would love to have another Stream in the neighborhood.

Like you, we purchased a new prior model trailer. Our 2005 CCD was purchased from a dealer with full warranty (TWO years) in the fall of 2006. I researched by pricing both used from similar years, and the same model of new trailer. MSRP for our trailer was $43,048. At the time we negotiated 22% off plus a free Equalizer hitch and install. You should expect a good deal on a 3 year old trailer.

This is what I found in a short search on the Sports:

2008 Sport 22 offered at a dealer in WI for $33,445 in June, 2009 -- yours should be considerably cheaper.

2011 Sport 22 at Colonial with base price $41,920, asking price available if you call. 20% off would be $33,536, 25% off would be $31,440, and 30% off would be $23,475.

What price are they asking for the 2008?

In short, a reasonable price is what you are willing to offer and they are willing to accept. We dealt with the sales staff in Burlington, and I would not hesitate to talk openly to them about price. We did not buy from them, as they could only offer us a new model at a considerably higher price.

I would not count on them for a lot of warranty work, their specialty is boats. We used our 2 year warranty thoroughly, and for the most part took trips to Jackson Center.

If you would like to talk, send us an email.

Make sure you call Colonial for that comparative price for a 2011. Airstream made a lot of nice upgrades to the Sport 22 since the 2008 introduction - a front panoramic window, more side windows, aluminum inside walls instead of fuzzy-cloth wall covering.

As a comparative a dealer here in Houston has an '11 Sport 22' that they are listing for $33k and that's without negotiating. Not sure how much more you could get.

I think so. The new ones have some things which others think are great but also add weight. We don't think pano windows and an xtra side window would make us more happy. The mouse fur does xtra duty as a sound absorber and insulation. We have the 13.5 a/c and Canadian axle. In 104º the a/c worked great without stress.

You'd be hard pressed to find a used one for that price. I know Ahab loves his, but as for me, after owning our Argosy - I'd have a hard time giving up the front wrap and extra side windows. Is that worth another $7k?

I thought about visiting that dealer (we're nearby on vacation) to look at the great deal on that Earthbound they have...

That Earthbound is very nice. My wife was having trouble walking away from that one. The new 2008 Airstream Classic 25 is pretty nice too (asking 49,900; MSRP 82k), but a little heavy for my tow vehicle.

The '08 22 Sport was kind of bare bones inside, with two gauchos, as I recall. The big bathroom was very nice. It was very similar to the Euro Airstreams. I liked it alot but not at 30K+ We just looked at a new 22 Sport, and with the fixed bed and dinette it feels crowded inside. At 24k the '08 seems like a good deal.
