is this a fair price?

this trailer just sold on ebay and i was wondering if it went for a fair price. it looks in pretty good condition considering it's age.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

it's a little older, more money, and in better condition than what i'm looking for in a project, but i'm trying to get a feel for the older/small a/s market.

Probably

Considering age and condition plus the small size, it is probably a good price. I am just guessing since I don't keep up with the vintage trailers, but the older, small units do go for a premium. Others can better advise, but this will keep the thread alive until they do.

Interesting that the high bidder is in the Netherlands, and apparently a fan of iconic Americana.

Conventional wisdom is that European buyers are willing to spend more for a truely vintage unit, perhaps because of the rarity overseas and perhaps because with much higher transportation, tax and maintenance costs; the initial purchase is only a part of what they are in for by the time everything is paid off.

That said, this is more than I would personally be willing to pay for this coach.

Seems a little high to me. You can check the value of an airstream at:

Seems like a fair price for a vintage trailer and a small one too. The trailers built during that era were well built. I have one (1958) and it has never leaked, good floor, excellent frame and original axle and springs (no it doesn't sag).

I follow the little trailers rabidly. It's a fair ebay price but I wouldn't have gone that high. It didn't have anything special to grab me.
This is sheer conjecture, but I think the little, pre-'64 trailers have a certain buyer, like me, who isn't concerned about anything except uniqueness and, to a certain extent, manageability.
We don't care about axles or how much money we'll have to sink into it & we're confident that down the line we'll have a valuable piece of merchandise no matter what.
Here's what I thought when looking at the listing:
On the plus side, the body is in good shape & it has lots of original bits.
On the negative, that's a strange layout & the inside looks pretty ratty.

For comparison, here's a similar one that just sold:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:EF:US:1
(listing #4571203902 if the link doesn't work)

To my mind, the '59 has everything going for it & the sale price was only $48 more.

I take that back about the '56 inside looking ratty. It's OK, but for heaven's sake make the bed before you photograph the damn thing! I think that really affected me subconsciously. Wouldn't it be a shame if you brought down the value of your trailer just because you didn't smooth the coverlet?!

I wouldn't pay that much but being that they aren't building vintage trailers anymore the market is coming up and most likely won't go down. It's getting much harder to one that's been "in the barn for 25 years". Good Luck

I agree...we were looking at buying an RV that was listed on a website, my wife would not even bother taking the time to go look at it because it looked so trashy in the pictures...bottles in the sink, a used paper towel under the table, etc. I did email the dealer and suggested to them they really should pay more attention to details, never heard back from them

It is the market price these days. I personally wouldn't pay that but it seems to be the going price lately.
