I found a 2005 AS Safari 19'. Is $22,500 a fair price?
My family and I found a 2005 AS safari 19'. Everything still functioning and comes with a 5 year extended warranty. There is a small ding size of a quarter and some scratches. Seller accepted my offer for $2250. Is this a fair price? Thank you in advance for your comments and response.
Best Regards,
Kenny

The first thing I question is the warranty.
Who us underwriting a 10 year old travel trailer? If it is legit you could easily blow 22500 on replacing the floors!
More details!

Please excuse my typo. I offered $22,500 not $2,250. Seller said he purchased an extended warranty 6 months ago. I just asked him if the floors had rot and more pictures of the ding and scratches. I also asked him to provide me with an address so I can send a family to look at it. Do you think the price is about right for a fair condition 2005 AS Bambi 19'? What other question do you think I need to ask?

When it comes to rot, you can't trust ones word. You have to get on there with an ice pick and Yank up carpet and vinyl. It's an easy thing to be blind to. I think this price is certainly on the high side. For this it should be in very good shape in need of not much.
Will it include a ed hitch? Unless KY is a ppp hitch it isn't much of a bargaining point.
Having someone look at it is a good starting point... make sure it is an inspector rather than a tirekicker.

Those warranties are generally non-transferable...

For some reason my edit which included that statement didn't post.
Indeed those warranty's rarely transfer to a new owner. More times than not they cover very little with great issue. This is a good time to find AS for sale. The classifieds here, CL are also great other options.
I hope your deal works out. Check the warranty transfer issue... that could be leverage.
Don't let a ding or scratch be a big deal... it simply saves you from doing it yourself.
Leaks stains heavy wear floor rot are all big bargaining chips.
Post back with info on damage, warranty, maintenance, hitch info. Someone here with a similar model can chime in with their issues a.d money talk. This should help you make the best decision.
By the way welcome to the forums!

Thank you all for your replies. I just asked a forum member to inspect the trailer for me. Very good point, I will make sure to ask about warranty transfer, hitch, maintenance.... If the warranty is non transferable and the trailer is in a good condition what should I offer the seller that is reasonable?

Have you looked up blue book value?
How much is a similar new trailer?

The only place I was able to look up value was NADA guides but their pricing is not at all realistic. I have not seen a late model AS Bambi under 20K. If I did it already has been sold.

Have you discussed insuring the trailer with any agents. One consideration is the amount you can insure it for.
I have been unable to get my 02 insured for what it would cost to replace it.

Warranty
I believe that federal law dictates that extended warranties must be transferable. Google: The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act

Seller confirmed the warranty is transferable and there's still 3 years. There's no rot to the frame or floor. What do you guys think? for $22,500? is it a good deal?

What is your alternative?
A price on something should be evaluated based on the next best alternative, Not what someone else not involved in the deal thinks is fair.
It is only fair if you think it is fair given your other alternatives. If the seller also thinks it is fair then you have a deal.
Sounds to me like you did your homework, offered a price you could live with and if the seller accepted, good for you! Start enjoying the Airstream life!

It's a very desirable model, the year is good to avoid excessive depreciation. You can afford to pay a little more if you don't have to travel to take possession or have it delivered. It's also the time of year that RVs sell better. If it is what you are looking for and fits your budget go for it. If it don't work out or you don't like it you can probably unload it without taking a huge hit. Good luck!

Great advice above! If YOU are happy, no one else's opinion matters. There will always be somebody ready to tell you that you paid too much, could have got a newer one for that price or should have waited...
If it checks out well and you buy it, enjoy it!

Hi,
It all depends on the condition of the unit. But I generally think this is a good deal if the unit is in good condition, no floor rot, no leaks, no rust and not too much filiform.
As a point of reference, in March of 2012 I purchased a 2004 19' Bambi for a little less than $22,000 and while it had a few scratches and filiform corrosion it was in great shape. A year later I upgraded to a 20' Safari SE and was able to sell my 19' for $24,000. I made a few small improvements but not much.
Hope that helps.

Hopefully all will go well and you will get a unit in good condition for the agreed upon price.
Buy you that shiny silver trailer.
Go campin'.
Life is good.

Thanks everyone. I'm in very good communication with the seller and a forum will take a look at it tomorrow for me. Crossing my fingers for a good condition trailer.

What a great forum with great members and invaluable information about airstreams. Special shout out to Belegedhel (from Houston). He took time out of his schedule to drive 30 mins to inspect my potential airstream purchase. He took numerous detailed pictures and did not expect anything in return. Thank you for making me feel "At Home" in this forum! Because of your efforts, I am now a proud owner of my very first Airstream
