Hippiechick's '66 is home!

Thanks to all for the advice. The first tow went amazingly smoothly!! No wiggles, no shimmies, no shakes - didn't even know it was back there. Really good brakes! She is out in the driveway now and I couldn't resist doing just a little cleaning. She really looks better than we orginally thought. Just getting all the PO's bits out of there really helped. We have a long way to go but she's gorgeous. I am full of questions and it is so encouraging to know we can find answers here. A few more pics before we pulled out!

It's pretty amazing how good an AS can look after 44 years! No other brand could achieve that! Good for you - enjoy it!

How well I know the feeling. All the angst and misgivings disappear when she’s sitting in your driveway after the first pull.
The true sense of ownership after you’ve removed the PO’s detritus, put down the bucket and scrub brush, stood back and said to yourself, ”She’s mine.”
Welcome to the Airstream Community. Good luck, Have fun. See you on the road.

Tom

BTW. I’ve worked for VW for nearly 40 years. I appreciate anyone who can stable a Type 2 and an Airstream.

My gosh, 40 years of VW experience. That's awesome. I could really pick your brain sometime. We have a 71 Karmann Ghia, the 66 bus, a 49 split window beetle and a 56 oval window standard as well as some great 'merican muscle as our 12 year old foster son would say.

That is a beautiful Airstream Hippiechick! Congratulations!

My first car and apartment was a 58 VW delivery van with 40 roaring horses under the bed in back. The redline on the speedometer for 4th gear was 48 mph.
I can't seem to get away from that shape.

Yes, really nice Airstream Hippiechick (great handle too, BTW)

I've posted about these before but looking at your pickup and what appears to be a relatively short tongue, you might want to buy some Rocktamer mud flaps. The rocktamers assembly sets up on your truck's receiver hitch and will keep the stones/debris from damaging that trailer.

I bought mine at Cabela's for around $200. MUCH cheaper than damage repair!

Happy Travels,
