Great deal on 31' 1971

its in overall pretty great shape, all original, everything works, includes equilzer hitch and stabiler bars, new tires, needs nothing other than general cleaning from the wife, the guy was asking 5k but he needs it gone by next month or he is stuck paying another years lot fees at local park ($1600) so I managed to wrastle him down to $2000 for it, I think this is a great deal, what do you guys think. It has no major dents or defects

Howdy and welcome to Airforums.com! You're going to have a blast with that trailer.

To find out how to post photos, have a quick read of Janet's wonderful "101 How To" on it right here.

You might want to edit your city name. I think you meant to put "Fort Frances", but as you see it came out somewhat oddly. lol!

All the best,
Aage

It looks like it's in good shape just from the two pics you showed and if everything else you listed was done, I agree, jump on it.

Great deal and what an awesome porch! Check the brakes, tires and lights then take it out and use it a few times. I suspect the money you saved will be put to good use on your 'honey do' list afterwards.

'honey do' list
This phrase even uttered in my wife's presence would get me the silent treatment until I apologized...
Tim, looks as your money was well spent.

Take a good look at the tires. Even if it's a short trip, if one fails, it could cost a lot of money to repair. When I bought mine, two of the tires looked ok while two showed signs of dry rotting.

I decided to risk it and drive it the 25 miles home. Thankfully both of those dry rotted tires failed in their driveway while I was trying to back out and not when I was doing 50mph on the road.

I brought back 4 new tires mounted on 4 new rims when I went back to pick it up.

Dunno what you are towing it with, but be aware that some tow vehicles may not have their "umbilical" (the cord that connects the electronics between the trailer and the tow vehicle) wired the same.

First time I towed my '74 Sov, the brakes were locked on, and no lights would work. If that happens to you, first thing to try is to reverse the unbilical. Plug it in the other way around vis a vis the trailer and tow vehicle, in other words.

If those tires have been sitting outside in one place for four years uncovered and exposed to the sun, they may very well be shot. Not saying they are for sure, but if it were down here in Florida... yeah, they'd be shot. Those UV rays tear up rubber. Hopefully you're ok.

You got a great deal on the trailer.

As you prepare for moving I would add that you should check for any rear end sag. In your photos there appears to be some gapping between the shell and the rear bumper. This may be an optical illusion, but combined with the concrete blocks placed under the rear frame it may be indicative of rear end sag which is common in rigs of this era. If there is substantial weakness you may need to provide some temporary support for your trip home.

Congrats on the rig and the great deal you were able to negotiate!
