Anyone know?

We have this Argosy and we're not exactly sure what we have. The VIN on the title is 1ABGAJL28JJ200900. Anyone know the specifics or can decifer the VIN? I'm trying to attach a picture. The trailer is in really good condition. All systems work. What do you think we should ask for this trailer if we were to sell it? Where is the best place to advertise a travel trailer like this? Thanks in advance for any information.

Advertise it here and on craigslist- ebay if you really want to sell it. It looks like an 80's squarestream - try checking this website:

Check out this article about these models. A few folks here at Air forums own these cool trailers.

I am more familiar with the first generation Argosy coaches, but will make an educated guess as to what the VIN indicates:
  • 1AB = Argosy Travel Trailer
  • GAJL = Descriptors of Trailer
    • G = Center Bath Roadside
    • A = Argosy
    • J = Framed shell. 96" wide body, swept surface, single door, painted exterior
    • L = 27 or 28 foot total length
  • 2 = Tandem Axle
  • 8 = Check Digit
  • J = 1988
  • J = Jackson Center, Ohio assembly plant
  • 200900 = Sequential Production Number
I believe that this should be close to the correct interpretation based upon the document posted in the Airstream Customer Service Section.

Thank you,

Thanks for all your input and info. What do think (somewhere in the ballpark) this trailer is worth?

What would one normally pay for a trailer like this one? Just want to get an idea. Thanks.

Your best bet would be to find similar trailers on ebay and see what they closed for. Or you could sift through craigslist ads nationally and look for them and see what people are asking. You could search RV trader or other online ad services as well.

Price will vary with condition and location, and being a rare trailer it will be hard to come up with comparables. It is rare, but being an argosy instead of a silver airstream may reduce it's value a bit over the silver 'squarestreams', and being square will reduce it a bit over an equivalent curved trailer. So as you can see a lot weighs into the value. People aren't telling you what it's worth because I doubt anyone around here knows!

Hey, I was just browsing the Summer 2008 issue of Airstream Life, and they have an article about these squarestreams and Argosys. They said less than a dozen of these come up for sale every year, and they fall in the $7000-$11000 range. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information. My wife and I were thinking about selling it and we were thinking of asking somewhere in the range of $3000 so I guess we were thinking to low. Thanks again.

Yes, it's a bit low. For $3,000, I'd drive from California to buy it...
