aluminum value scrap on 27 foot

there is a junk 27 foot airstream local that has a few parts i can use. she will not part the trailer out just sell as a whole and i have no use for it and i truley doubt anyone on here would have use of it. ( of course b4 i scrap it i would see if anyone needs any parts) anyway anyone know how much scrap aluminum is on a 27 footer. or the weight of just the shell?

Don't scrap it. Take what you need and then sell the shell here on the forums classified section.

I was wondering the same thing a couple months ago... found a super cheap and trashed Airstream that had the door handle I wanted. The AS was only about $300 more than a new handle. I wondered about purchasing the trailer - strip and redistribute parts and then scrap the rest (as I have no real ability to store a second trailer). Thankfully, folks on this forum helped me repair my handle! Curious though on the salvage return. How about the copper in the old plumbing - thieves stripped the copper from a neighbors 100' HG extension cord (leaving the remain in their driveway). sigh.

Scrap prices vary daily and from region to region. The posted prices for old sheet are currently around $0.80 in wholesale lots. For small (less than a semi-load) sales you'll typically get half of that.

Scrapyards don't like handling used sheet materials and discount them accordingly.

You have to separate the aluminum yourself or find a scrapper who's willing to do it. I would be surprised if you could find a scrapper who would be willing to disassemble a trailer because the metal isn't valuable enough to be worth the labor.

I bought a 1966 Globetrotter 20 foot and before I brought it home I brought it to Black River Recycling Services - Padnos in Holland MI, in 2009. I don't remember the weight buy they quoted me $230.00 in scrap.
I was not interested in scraping it was just curious what it would bring in scrap.

Unless you get it for next to nothing it's not worth it. We scrapped a 1995 34' AS last November that was rolled and fixed (badly I might add) a couple times. Luckily this trailer had 6 rims, with new tires, 4 good zipdee awnings, some oak cabinet doors etc... and a bunch of odds n ends that we can use on our other AS's. We seperated the scrap between aluminum, steel and wire. All told we got $600 for the scrap. The frame weighed 2,000 #'s, about 150#'s of wire and IIRC only about 1,000#'s of aluminum.
Now I work in the Waste Management industry so the 20 yd dumpster and hauling for the aluminum was free, and we also disposed of about 3,000#'s of debris from the interior which was also free.

I wonder if we could get them to drop prices if we told Airstream that the materials in their trailers aren't worth much?
