Airstream vs Argosy

So if you had two trailers in identical condition, size, floor plan, age etc, how different would the value be between Airstream and Argosy? I am a bit of an AS snob, but I am curious how values differ when the exterior skin is painted.

What say you all?

My Argosy is stripped and polished. I love, love, love the front panoramic windows of the Argosy. Unfortunately, I do believe that there is a certain snobbery with the AS name emblazoned on the front cap and tail which may translate into a slight (500-$1000) diff. in price.

Oh, by the way...they will never be the same size width wise.

Same-year, same-condition, I'd take the Argosy. I like the pano windows, and same-year the Airstream doesn't have them.

They're never quite the same length, though I think they are the same width unless the Argosy is a Minuet. In general, the "equivalent" Argosy is a foot shorter than the Airstream.

The Argosy is a bit less valuable than the Airstream, and less visible, that is people don't notice them as much. They had fewer features than the AS as originally sold, but not a lot. I have always liked Argosy's as well as Airstreams. 10-15 years ago Argosy's were much less valuable than the AS, and were a great value. Now there is not that wide a price spread between the two.

My Argosy 26' is 8" wide, I believe the AS is 8' 6"? I could be wrong...I've been staring at aluminum all day and may be a little foggy.

Oops! Hahaha. I wondered why the overheads would only open one side at a time.

New Airstreams are 8'6" (except for some Sport models). '70s Airstreams were the same width as regular Argosy trailers.

Thanks for all the replies! I am mostly interested in cost comparison, and it sounds like there isn't a huge difference between them these days. I am looking for a resto-mod project, but I want to start with something that will hold value.

I gotta believe that comparable restored trailers will still have a healthy difference.

When the general population thinks of Airstream, they don't think of Argosy trailers. This causes a higher demand, thus a higher value.

I think this would hold especially true with high dollar trailers.

I think I've seen a photo of a black Airstream on this site. Do many people paint Airstreams? Black wouldn't work in Arizona, but I might consider painting mine white when the clear coat becomes unsightly, if it didn't ruin the resale value.

I just don't think I could keep up with the polishing...

I am biased

I prefer Argosy. They are lighter. Paint last longer than clear coat. If I had an Airstream, I would paint it white, to match my tow vehicle. Although....the furniture in the Argosys are flimsier ( one of the reasons that they are lighter ) than in the Airstreams. I am putting custom furniture in mine.

With the pano front windows, and lower price, I think the Argosy's are a better value. But when people think Airstream, they are thinking silver bullet, not painted. I believe AS will always have at least a $1000 or more price difference compared to a comparable Argosy. Plus I think that they are easier to sell because of the name recognition.

We are definitely biased with Argosys... Love them... price is really climbing on them. We took Costalotta into an Airstream park which is WBCCI members only. The host said sorry but you can only park an AIRSTREAM here... we said we have an Airstream product and proceeded to tell them the history of Argosys. It still amazes me that so many people think that Argosy was a trailer bought out by Airstream...
