2013 flying cloud 25 twin vs 2016 same model, which one is a better buy

2016 used $64000
2013 used $49000

$15000, 3 years apart.

All excellent condition.

Which one is better buy in terms of resale value in the future and usage as well (I understand the 2016 has quietstream AC)

Thanks!

I don't know all the differences, but it's encouraging to see that the 2016 might go for almost what we paid for ours new. Not that I plan to sell it any time soon.

Depreciation isn't linear, it's a curve. The 2013 won't lose another $15,000 in another three years.

Do the two trailers have equal features?

Is the 2013 cosmetically as good as the 2016?

Have you compared the performance and noise of the A/C in both units.

Yes equal features and conditions. All little used.

I haven't compared the AC but I heard it was really big difference in terms of noise

My 2016 is comfortably quiet compared to others of earlier vintage I've been in.

I couldn't sleep with the noise of our air conditioner, but then we don't travel where we need it. Texas summers are brutal for heat, I would look into the ducted air model if I lived and camped there.

The newer trailer with ducted air would be tempting.
Have you thought about purchasing a brand spanking new trailer?
That 2016 might not be $10,000-$15,000 from a new trailer.
Foley has a 2016 Flying Cloud 25 FB on the lot with the $81,429 price marked through and marked "price to low to show".
You should be able to haggle and get this one at a good discount, maybe 20% off, or $65,144, just a little more than the used one at Colonial.
Please call them on this one and see what the price is.
They also have a 2017 on order.
Mississippi is a whole lot closer than Pennsylvania.

If you are confident this will be a long term ownership I'd go with a ducted A/C model plus you get a factory warranty. It's possible with negotiations you may get the price down further.

Our 2008 Classic A/C is noisy but not aggressively, more like white noise and we sleep with it running all night but we have the vinyl ceiling and mouse fur. Maybe the all aluminum ceiling and walls don't absorb the noise on the 2013 models as well.

The ducted models make enough "white noise" to be useful sleep aids in a noisy campground but the non-ducted are much much louder. If $ is no problem, I would go for the 2016 or a considerable discount on a 2017 just for the ducted AC.

The new ducked air is a big deal.

Used versus New

We just traded a 2014 23' International Serenity for a new unit. We would have accepted an offer of 49K for our unit which was in "like new" condition. IF we were buying a 23' unit again I would buy a used unit. I assume all unit systems work "as new" and there is little/no sign of "wear."

My thinking is the used unit will "perform" your camping experiences as well as a new unit and will depreciate less quickly. The cost difference is significant I think. The only advantage of new versus used is your thinking. If you will only "feel" good about the trailer if it is new, buy new. If your interest is the family camping experiences, buy used. In a few years you may decide you want something bigger or smaller and having bought used up front I think will have more financial flexibility. Comments more emotional I admit.....but you asked. Good luck. Whatever you decide you will enjoy owning your Airtream.

$15k for ducted AC? That is likely the only major difference between the two trailers, aside from cosmetic changes like the color of the cushions. If both are in very good condition and the 2013 has been well-maintained, I personally see no reason to get the 2016. We bought a 2011 two years ago and I'm very glad we were able to find a good deal on a trailer that is a few years old because of the cost savings.

We also wild camp or stay in public campgrounds with no electricity, and prefer solar over a generator, so the fancier AC would be a non-issue for us.
