2008 Safari Sport 22' - what's it worth?

So, it is already 3 years old. Has no upgrades inside. No pano windows, blah coloring. Nada value is between $17,000 and $22,000. The dealer actually has 2 sitting on the lot. Not really what I was hoping for, but I could add some color and maybe love it. The dealer says the price is $37,000 but they would work with us . So what do you think.

I think you should find one that you love, and then start negotiating. It sounds as if you are already dissappointed in this one, so I don't think price will make you feel any better about it. Buy one you can be proud to talk about, not make excuses for.

The pictures in this ad may not be actual. The floor plan and interior colors may vary. Huh? Seems weird, they say they have two identical 2008 trailers, but have no actual pictures of them? Did you go see them?

Shop around and find something you love, don't settle for "not really what I was looking for".

I would shop around and get what makes you happy. When we bought 5 years ago we wanted to use the trailer one weekend a month. In Minnesota we get 6 months to camp. We were thinking 12 nights a year.

Last year we spent 71 nights in our trailer. We bought what we wanted, not what they had. We are still delighted with our purchase and cant wait for spring.

I think I would be delighted with any Airstream. We will only camp on a few weekends out of the year and I plan on just sleeping in it anyway. Of course, there are those rainy days, but I wouldn't get anything much bigger than this anyway. I'm not disappointed in the trailer, just not a good negotiater. So, I hesitate to make an offer. We did go see their trailers (they have plenty!), but they aren't open when my DH and I can go inside them. We plan on going to the RV show this weekend and getting a look.

A 23' is one foot longer, and 6 inches wider. For that space, you can get one with a "bedroom", dinette, and front couch. That is instead of the admittedly nicer rear full bath instead of a corner bath, and two couches that make into beds for sleeping in the Sport.
"List" price is probably 20% more, but you are getting more than 20% more in the way of the trailer.

I am looking for an affordable trailer. I know we don't want to make huge payments. I also know these trailers aren't in demand and might go for less money. I would be happy with it. I won't be happy with a trailer that is too much money for us. It seems like a reasonable compromise. For us, price will be a determining factor. Plus, we need to be able to see it before we buy it. That gets complicated when you live where there aren't very many for sale. Is 30% off a reasonable offer?

Hmmm. I'd take a look at RVT.com and their classifieds. I assume that the 2008 Sports you're looking at are this one and this one. They're supposedly brand new, never sold units. I know that in the depths of the recession, new ones were selling for several thousand less than the $29,999 these are going for. They also have a leftover new 17' Sport.

So yeah, I think you can get one of those 22' Sports for less than the $30k they're asking online. But I also get the feeling you might be happier waiting to find a lightly used 16' or 19' Bambi with a panaromic window and the nicer aluminium-walled interior. Keep in mind that you could add some color to those - but they're lacking the second curbside window (an option that became standard for 2009), have the fuzzy-walled inside, and have windows that don't open fully. Some of those things are tough to fix after the fact. (FWIW, the 2010 and 2011 22' Sports are much nicer trailers.)

We purchased a 2008, 22ft sport at the depths of the recession and think we got a good price. But that is besides the point. Even if it cost $5,000 more than we paid, it would still be worth it. We have really enjoyed the trailer and we have three teenage daughters that pack into the trailer with us. We have taken it on long trips and short ones without the girls and it is a perfect balance between flexibility, luxury (flat screen TV) and price. It might be a little tight for 5 people, but it works well and then when there are only the two of us, it also works well. Unless you have owned a trailer before and know all the little things you want, this is a great trailer.

A few months back a 2008 sold in So. Lake Tahoe. The asking price was 24K.... I believe it sold quickly, but still. That's the market.

We started out looking at the 17'. Pano windows did not turn us on. We were going for utility. The windows do fine for cross ventilation and the mouse fur does double duty as a sound absorber and insulator. A few weeks ago in 104°F, The AC was set at the lower range and worked perfectly. 6" less in width may not sound like a lot but makes a big difference in towability and seeing without sacrificing livability. That big bathroom is a jewel. We bought our '08 in August '07 when they first came out and now after more than 10,000 miles have no regrets or Quality issues.
