1994 25' Airstream Excella Classic

We have an opportunity to purchase this AS. It appears to be in excellent condition. Inside has been taken care of and has wood floors with the split sleeping area in the back. The didn't appear to be any leaks around the fans in the roof or floor areas in the bathroom.

Outside has no visible dents or damage. The dealer is asking $19,000 for this unit. We offered $15,500 and he settled on $17,000. They had just got this unit in for a trade for a 2012 Classic and still need to do the complete inspection, so our purchase is pending on that outcome. Our concerns with a 20 year old trailer would be brakes, axle issues to name a few.

This would be our first AS. We have searched google, ebay etc to find any ideas about this price point and have found it to be all over the place.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are in Austin, TX and want to make a decesion the week of May 21, 2012.

Thanks!

On a 94 a big problem is the headliner falling (sagging) down. This is not an easy and inexpensive fix. It cannot be re-glued as the dealer will probably tell you. Tires are easy to replace...but your looking at nearly 800$. An old battery...which it probably has...around 200 for a good one....and you probably have two with a 94. You have to re-do the bearings regardless to what a dealer tells you...be safe and have a known starting point. Don't just dive into a new axle idea on a 94...live with it and evaluate the need. Mattress'? Your decision there. The rest is just normal check it out. By the way, do the wood floors cover under the bed frames and cabinets? To many folks use the Pergo types to cover many problems...

We pull a 1988 25' Excella. Love it. As you may have surmised, the 25' trailers have a pretty quick turn around in the used market. They are a nice size.
Agree with the above to get someone to do the wheel bearings and check the brakes. Thats a couple hundred dollars. Interstate batteries should cost about $250 for a pair if it needs batteries. Check all the compartments along the edges of the trailer for leaks or rotted areas in the floor. Check under the couch arms up front. If it needs new brakes you might budget 600 to 1000 for a complete bearing and brake job. Gonna depend on how the unit was used. I use Michlen LT tires. There will be a date code on tires that are on it.

Get the dealer to check the appliances and show you how to work them. The fridge is pricy, so it should work.
If you can afford some maintence and upkeep over the purchase price I would buy it. We love ours. No damage to the outside is good. You can fix almost anything but dents.
Does it come with a hitch?
