1972 Argosy 22'

I have a 72 Argosy 22 that I want to sell. It has been in the family since around 1984. Been used mostly for Memorial and Labor Day weekends to the lake. Trailer was repainted in two tone original colors a few years ago and remains in very good condition as we have kept the trailer covered. It does have a couple of dents on the end caps from fallen tree limbs. All systems are in working order except for the the furnace which never worked. Interior is pretty much original except for curtains and carpet.

I have seen a wide range of sell prices for Argosy trailers and am simply trying to figure out what it is actually worth. Would appreciate any input.

Prices are always what you can get, willing seller, willing buyer. I would say $5000 + or -would be realistic, from the photos. But photos don't tell the entire story, I have seen some that looked pretty good, and were not, and some that the photos didn't do justice to.

By the photos it's a nice looking rig you have. Good luck with your selling. Be prepared for some very low offers, don't let them make you feel like your asking an outrageous price.
Look around at others similar to yours via Craigslist, classifieds here on the forums, and eBay and compare yours to them and decide what your willing to let it go for.

Very handsome trailer. The fresh paint helps a lot - a lot of Argosys look timeworn but yours is rather attractive.

Being honest, the main downside I see is that the rubber absorbing rods in the axles are worn out. You can see that by where the top of the hubcaps meet the wheel wells level-wise; it's common for this age of trailers. But it costs a lot more to paint an Argosy than to replace the axles, and most buyers would never notice the axles as it will tow pretty well as is...

I'd say to price it at $6500 as spring hits and folks want to go camping.

If you can prove to a buyer that knows these trailers that you don't have any major structural problems like floor rot then you have a trailer that won't take years to get it in shape to use. This makes the trailer the exception and not the rule. As a rule most trailer of the age that yours is would need a lot of work. Trailers in typical condition are going to get you $3000 or less. It is up to you to prove you don't have the usual rear end separation and floor rot problems that take so much time and money to fix. Most of us would kill to have a trailer that we can just start using instead of spending the next few years fixing up. So $6000+ is not a bad place to start but you have to prove what you have is a rare gem and not the usual eye wash that covers up a lot of problems. It looks like you have a gem but many owners on this list thought they had a gem and ended up with a sow's ear.

This is just like mine,great original condition.new paint ,carpet looks great.Well i wouldn't let mine go for under 6000.00.By the time you have new carpet,500.00 new professional correct drapes 450.00 and a nice paint job 2000.00 you already have 3000 into it and in that condition the Argosy is certainly worth 3000 even without the new items.As long as the floors are solid and all works as it should 6000.00 is very fair.I was offered 7500.00 for mine but Not For Sale.let me know where you are going to list her and i will let a few people who are interested in mine know.Good luck she looks great.

I really like the fact that the beltline trim ends just before the windows, and that the window frames are bare aluminum instead of paint. I'm definitely making both those mods when I finally have ours painted!

Right now I have that "sour grapes" thing going about furnaces, and there are definitely people who'll pay extra for the original '70s upholstery in good shape. Remember that people tend to pay more for shorter Airstreams and Argosies in a given condition, so if there's nothing wrong with yours other than what you stated, hold out for a buyer to come close to the #s other people are tossing out.

I paid a little more than that for our Argosy that is much less cosmetically appealing (original paint), but it had new PEX plumbing, a new 12V converter, all new seals on doors and windows, a newish water heater and all new screens. Paint is frankly a bigger undertaking than some of those other systems, and someone walking up to your shiny trailer should be favorably disposed to it from how nice it looks. I say ask north of $6k, hold out for well over $5k.

I'm pretty sure we just purchased your 1972 Argosy. She's in great condition -- one of the previous owners invested $10k in renovations. And now she's very happy in her spacious new home in Marble Falls, TX.

That was a clean trailer.
What did the previous owners have done for $10 K ?

I wonder what it's valued at now, but I'm too polite to ask. I bought mine for $4K and put $20K into it.

Looks like mine. Sold to a lady from Ok City back in 2012. She named her Pearl in the driveway and left. Also interested in what she spent $10k on. But vintage trailers have a ravenous appetite. Currently working on a 31' Avion myself.

Yup. It's the same trailer. We have those two dents still.

She kept receipts but I don't have them on me.
