$12,500 for a '77 overlander?

saw an ad in a tiny little local paper yesterday...one of those publications that is a "once a week" kind of thing....anyway, they want 12,500 for a 77 27-footer. Seems a bit optimistic, don't you think? They didn't go into alot of detail, but did say that it had a new a/c and carpet installed at the factory, and that it spent most of its life garaged.

not a word about tires, running gear, appliances, etc.

I'm sure it doesn't leak, either, though it wasn't mentioned...

anyway, doesn't that seem a bit much..even if it is in "pristine" condition?

They're worth whatever somebody is willing to pay. Generally Airstream owners ARE a bit too optimistic, but a guy sold one identical to mine but not in as good of shape and he got $10K for it. I guess you have to find the right buyer at the right time.

You're right about what people are willing to pay. It was a hard decision, but I turned down an unsolicited $12,000 last week for my unit ('72 Overlander). It's totally refurbished and polished. Great curb appeal, and I've done major upgrades and interior restoration. But I didn't feel I wanted to go through all that again in a replacement AS. I would have asked maybe $8,500!

To me that does not sound out of line at all for a really good trailer in really good condition.

When I sold my 59 Traveler I found that most were looking for something in the 3-5k range. I looked for a long time and most in that price range need a lot of work. My current 58 I paid 2500 for it and doing a total rebuild - at the end I will have more than 12k in it. I would have gladly handed that or more for a vintage trailer that needed no repairs or polishing.

The way I look at it is you can pay it now or pay it later.

In this case it may or may not be worth the asking price - just depends on condition care and history

I agree with Ken. When I bought his 75 I wanted something ready to roll and use. I could have paid alot less for a project, but that's not what I wanted. I knew what I wanted and had a maximum I was going to spend. I got the trailer I wanted and a free cot!

So I guess the $3500 I'm paying for a 76 27' in good running order is within bounds? lol. All it seems to need is some refreshing, but all the major stuff is hunky dory. Even includes a $500 hitch setup, a/c. The only glitch at this point is getting a quote from the insurance company because they're asking for original value, value now, both of which are sketchy. I'm beginning to wonder about the integrity of my accounts with them if they can't find this stuff.

Talk to progressive, they do agreed value policies. You will need to have it appraised though.

I just read through that E-bay listing and this caught my eye ;

I just about choked when I read that. $363.27 !!! And that was 5 years ago at that. To quote Mr.Rogers - "Can you say rip-off boys and girls? <pause> I knew you could."

Ever installed or even seen a water heater bypass kit? Well I have, and if anyone wants to stop by my place I'll do the job for the bargain price of only $300.00 CDN ! P.

I bought our 71 Sovereign on Ebay in May for $5700, and I'm putting $10,000 into its restoration. At the end of the day, $15,700 to have an older "new" Airstream is a lot cheaper than buying a new "new" one. Just my $.02.

Well, I know where's there a 78 International, 25 footer. Asking price is $4,600! It's ready to roll.... all systems checked out etc. May need a little freshening up, not sure..... and as stated, the fortysix hundred is the *asking* price! Not sure what would buy it..... but I do trust the guy selling it!
