What is fair sales price for 2012 Sport 16'

I am looking to purchase as 2012 Sport 16 that is listed at $39,306. I am located in the Florida panhandle and have been looking within about a 12 hour drive from here. I was wondering if a final sales price in the range of $35,000 is reasonable, or do dealers have more room to negotiate with this model. Thanks, Glenn

A couple of members here recently purchased the 16' and they will certainly be here to comment later. My wife and I casually looked at a left over 2011 22' Sport that listed at $42,300. Local dealer offered it to us at $35,400. Based on that, I think you have room to do a little better, but I'm not sure what the market is like in your area.

I would agree that if they are offering the 22' at that price, I should do a bit better. Its interesting that they are offering about 16% off the list price. Back when I purchased a Trail Lite 23' in 2004, there was a tremendous percentage off the list price. I have read and been told that Airstreams generally sell for closer to the list price than other RV's, maybe in the 15%-20% range like you were quoted. The dealers I spoke with made the argument that their margins on the 16' Sport are different from the rest of the line and therefore less of a discount available. Whether or not that is true, I thought a fair price would be around $33,400 or approx. 15% off of list. So far, no dealer would go that low. Glenn

Here's a link to the 22 I looked at. Looks like they have it sold already. They do have the sale price they quoted us listed from what I can see.

Airstream 2011 22' FB SPORT 2011

They seem like a great dealer to work with and if I end up buying new, they are definately on my list for consideration.

You may find this interesting. Chilhowee RV in Knoxville has what appears to be a really good special. A 2011 Flying Cloud 19' was listed at $52,820 being offered for $39,996. Assuming that's the true original listing price, that represents a 25% discount. I spoke with the salesman and he said it was all about just being one of only two 2011's left on the lot. They have a Sport 16' coming in but he said it was about 8 weeks out and we didn't discuss price. I just can't quite tow the 19' comfortably with my 4Runner. If it works, the link to the 2011 Flying Cloud is New Airstream Flying Cloud for sale in Louisville TN | 2011 Airstream Flying Cloud 19 Bambi Travel Trailer For Sale from Chilhowee RV Center in Louisville Tennessee

Well there is already an ending to this story, for now. We put down a deposit yesterday on a 2012 Sport 16 at around 14% off the sticker price. I shopped around and only Colonial was able to offer a better price, cutting more than $1,500 off my best offer right off the bat. Although that was enticing, after figuring the additional costs involved in traveling to and from New Jersey from Florida, it was really close enough that we wanted to purchase closer to home in a more convenient way. Thanks for the info Midnightmoon and we'll let you know how things go.

Excellent! Congrats on your purchase. Can't wait to see pictures of it.

Hey welcome to the Sport 16 club! I think it is a unique AS. Light and easy to tow, and challenging in it's size. But overall, like they say, it's great for hook up and go have fun. I am enjoying mine. In a week will take my 2d beach trip. Have fun on the other coast!

And don't forget the pics.

You paid about what I paid for a 2011 Sport 16 last summer when they were starting to show up at the dealerships. This is my third airstream and the one we like the best. We've had a 17 Sport, then a 23 FB, and now the Sport 16. I just read the posts about camping at Grand Isle and I think we might head down there next week.

You should be able to get at or near 20% off of MSRP.

Thanks to all for your interest and information. We took delivery in Dover, FL and drove about 4 hours north to Spirit of Suwannee Music Park near Live Oak. We love going to music festivals there and visiting when it's not crowded, like it was. Our first two nights went great and to our surprise, the 16' Sport actually felt bigger in there than we thought it would. Everything worked well and just as expected. There's only a couple of minor things going on that I may need to ask a few questions about in a later post and can probably deal with or adjust myself. In the meantime, we look forward to spending as much time as we can in it beginning with some short weekend trips to nearby national/state parks to break her in.
