What Happened to Prices ?

Was at RV show last weekend and saw new Airstreams. WOW. The 23 foot Sport was like $60K. The 25 fT's were $70K+.
Even looking at Carmax for TV. (for what i would like) $40K.
I think our 07 will be our last new AS.Same for our TV. Problem with TV is there loaded with stuff i don't need or want.
What we have is looking better.

Normally you can figure 15% off, maybe more from many dealers.

There was a time if you wanted all the garbage? Stuff on a truck you had to special order it. Now if you want a basic truck you have to order it. Sometimes one can find a work truck left over from a fleet order. Just my observation. Jim

I love my amazingly basic Silverado.

Air conditioning, radio, and cruise for about 1/2 the cost of a truck with all the bells and whistles.

I should have gotten smart like that decades ago!

Yes, but consider this: I went through a fast food drive-thru where in 2007 I used to get a 3 piece chicken dinner with two sides and a small soft drink for $5.50. Today the same thing cost $8.75. Local prepared food tax went up from 8% to 11% in that time, the rest is mostly accounted for in increases to wages - for the suppliers of the food, transporters, deliverers, and cooks and servers. The corporate franchisers are also raking it in too.

Moral - inflation isn't a mild benign thing... and we're on our way to post WWI German inflation if we just keep raising the debt and funding ever more grandiose government programs with non-existant income.

Wait just a minute folks, our government says inflation is minimal. Your memory of the costs of years gone by must be wrong!

Inflation on some things seems fairly low here, most notably vehicles and housing. But grocery prices have gone through the ceiling in the past few years!!!

My wife would like a truck with roll up windows. I don't want to go that far.
Yep. Plus that multiplier for SS checks confirms inflation is low. LOL
I think will have what we got to the end except if my wife finds that TV with crank up windows.
Plus were finding that the Dollar menu and " Senior Drinks" cut the Bill in Half.

The prices go up every year and so does the value of our pre owned Airstreams. I always choke a little when looking at new cars or Airstreams (Mod hat on) but let's keep the politics out of the conversation.

Mostly supply and demand with some inflation I think. Airstream is selling everything here they can build, and shipping more out of the country. Who ever thought China would be importing Airstreams, not to copy but to go camping. Many to Europe. And world-wide supply and demand is raising prices of materials to construct the Airstream.

To be fair, the OP is looking at list prices of Airstreams and at used car prices at Carmax, a place that priced my 18-month-old minivan (after I traded it to them) for MORE money than I bought it for new. And loaded full-sized trucks often have $5,000 or more of discounts by the time you haggle for them.

But yeah, AS prices seem to jump. I would be hard pressed to say that there was $9,000 more content in the 2013 version of my trailer (or whatever the last year of production was for that floor plan) compared to the 2007 MSRP. Then again, the folks who build them should get a raise in 6 years, etc…

The CPI inflation calculator is great fun. CPI Inflation Calculator

My dad sold gas, 5 gal for a dollar in Vermont in 1938. 20 cents a gal.

Put that into the calculator and you will find the 20 cent price in today's money is $3.30. That is just what I am paying now for gas.
